hi all
so my parents es 350 came with 1 key
what is the most economical way for us to obtain a spare?
(for reference local lexus dealer quote = $339)

Sounds like a reasonable price. That said, I would be concerned as to what happened to the original key. I would ask for a re-keying for security reasons.

The most economical would be to buy a blank key online (~$140) and program it yourself using $20 Mini-VCI cable. You can also delete the missing key along the way. The metal shank could be cut for ~$10 by a local locksmith.

can a toyota dealer do this and would it be cheaper?

I wouldn't complete the deal unless seller provides two keys.

Too bad. That 399.00 quote from dealer is reasonable IMO and it is guaranteed. DIY using Tech Stream is buy blank, cut the key, program the brain. 3 things to do.
If you are familiar with Tech Stream. I'd suggest don't bother unless you want to get familiar with Tech Stream.

Don't be tempted to try to get by with just one key fob and hope for the best. I believe it is a much more costly fix if you lose the second key and have to replace everything. Or was that just an urban legend from a few years ago?
