Default cpo question

hiya all,

so yet another question about the cpo program
(i am trying to pick between a 14 es 350 cpo and non cpo)
i have narrowed my search to 2 candidates, both are 14 with 47k miles each.
the cpo is exactly $2000 more
it is a nicer color to me anyway and has a few extra features which are not crucial to me
BUT my question is this : the cpo warranty will cover 2years/20k miles 4 basic maintenance free of charge so with that said one of those maintenance service visits would be the 60k miles on the cpo

this is from the cpo document but does not say how the service calls are covered

"
  • Complimentary Maintenance Plan covering the first four basic factory-scheduled maintenance services for 2 years or 20,000 miles

what will lexus pay fr on the 60k miles service?
will the do the brakes even if they are not below specs?
if i was to service the non cpo at a lexus dealership, how much roughly would i pay for the 50, 55, 60 and 65k services all together?

What is in those services? Oil change is about $100 and nice coffee and cookies at a Lexus dealership.

I would expect that the total cost for those 4 service intervals at a Lexus dealer would be somewhere between $550 and $600. If you had the same serviced done at a Toyota dealer, the cost would likely be about half of that. The most expensive of those intervals would be the 60,000 mile service because that one calls for a brake fluid flush. The 60,000 mile service would account for about half of the total cost of those 4 service intervals. The 55,000 and 65,000 mile service intervals should be very inexpensive because they are basically just tire rotations and inspections. At a tire dealer or a Toyota dealer, those two could likely be done for $10-15, but I'm sure that a Lexus dealer will charge significantly more.

With regard to brake pads, the CPO warranty would not cover replacing them regardless of how much or how little usable life they have left. Brake pads are considered to be normal wear and tear items, and wear and tear items are not included in the CPO warranty.

another thing would be 2 years extra warranty as well
is all this together worth $2000?

That's up to you to decide. So, yes, lesz is correct, the 60,000 mile service would be covered - it's 2 years worth, so 2 of the major (10K miles) and 2 of the minor (tire rotation 5K ones).
You probably don't need the warranty (the only possible manufacturer issue is that intermittent battery/non-start issue (check the NHTSA website for the TSB on that) which would be covered if under warranty. Otherwise the car is pretty much worry-free when it comes to reliability.
Best of luck!

Do you know if Lexus dealers usually check a cpo car for previous sheet metal repair and wouldn't certify if an extensive prior sheet metal repair exists (like do they check gaps? Paint meter?)
that would be the only thing that would possibly give me piece of mind as I am not good at determining something like this

I believe that Lexus will still certify a vehicle that has had body work resulting from a collision or other cause. This would include paint work and body part replacements.
If this is incorrect another member will chime in...

Yes, they can still CPO a car that has had body repair. There are some guidelines about it - it has to be limited to one or two panels as I recall, no "frame" damage, etc.

Not only can a car with collision damage be certified, but it is also not unheard of for a dealer to take a car in as a trade-in and to do body work or paint work, such as re-finishing a bumper, as a part of the re-conditioning process and to sell it as a CPO vehicle.

In most cases, minor repairs or paint work, if properly done, are not likely to cause problems or to diminish the value of the car, but, periodically, there will be threads on the CL boards started by people who bought CPO vehicles and who later discovered that repairs done to the car that they bought did cause problems down the road.

Here are some recent threads from the Generation 6 ES board about such a bad experience.

Like with any used car, the reality is that the buyer needs to beware.
