Did you check the owners manual there should be something about it in there.

The button is for the distance setting for the radar cruise control. It allows you to set a short, medium, or long distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.

It is explained on page 215 of the 2017 ES manual. For your 2018 ES, it might not be on the same page, but it should be close.

I would offer 2 suggestions.

First, the pictorial index near the beginning of the manual can be very helpful, and it will usually lead you directly to the pages with the information you are looking for.

Also, if you download the pdf version of the manual from the Lexus website, using the search feature with the pdf manual usually works quite well in helping you quickly to find what you are looking for.

The cruise control has to be turned on before pushing the steering wheel button works. Once you have it turned on you'll see a distance indicator in the dash that changes each time you press the button.
Adaptive cruise.... yep.

its the distance setting for the DRCC. Set cruise like normal then after criuse is set hit that little button to adjust how the DRCC sees other cars, and how your car travels behind them. There is a short distance, medium distance and far setting.
