Default Video: 20 Years of the Lexus ES

Hello everyone!

I'm the producer for a little show called TestDrive, we usually feature older luxury cars and anything we find unique and interesting. Last week we had the opportunity to meet a local Lexus Enthusiast at our local dealership with his 1999 ES 300 and compare it with the new 2018 ES 300. We wanted to see what's changed over the past 20 years and 3 generations, but also what's stayed the same.

We also have a full episode on the 2018 ES 350 coming out in a couple weeks going over all the features of the Touring Package, the differences with the Executive Package, and our thoughts on the car in general. We're hoping that episode will be helpful for those thinking of buying an XV60 ES and want to know more about the car.

Cool video...

I would agree that specifically the Lexus ES, RX and LS all have a certain "feel" that transcends generations.

Default Nice vid - memory lane

Recently moved from a 1999 ES300 Coach to a used 2013 ES350 UL. I ran the 1999 up to 268k miles and gave it to a single mother who needed a reliable car. Still miss the old car sometimes, especially the big fat rubbery tires with 15" rims. That car laughed at potholes and bad pavement. The 2013 has 18" rims and needs good tires to feel decent over potholes with the trade off being better handling in the corners.

Also miss the feel of the analog throttle and the Coach leather held up very well (2013 already shows some wear marks).

Of course the new car is a nicer ride with updated tech, a super quiet interior and much better safety, but the old car was a very reliable and comfortable commuter.

I always find the older vehicles to be more desirable for many reasons, some you've touched on. It's clear that Lexus makes and made solid cars considering how many of them are still on the roads today, and the fact that people are still interested in picking them up. It'll be interesting to see how the 6ES does 20 years from now.

We published our full Spotlight on the 2018 ES 350 earlier this week, which covers the car in more detail than we did with our Showdown posted above:
