Default Questions Regarding Brake Pad Thickness

Hopefully, someone could answer the following for me (I have a 2014 ES350 with 17" wheels):
1) I am having trouble visualizing the brake pad thickness with the wheels mounted. Can this be done?
2) I think the quoted limited is 1 mm. Is it at this thickness when you would first hear the scraping of the wear indicator?
3) Can someone estimate how much time I have to replace the pads from first hearing the indicators? (I usually buy new rotors rather than machine the existing ones).
4) I am getting new tires soon at Costco. I know they don't do brake jobs but does anyone know if they will measure the thickness of the linings on all 4 wheels?
Thanks in advance!
