Default Heads up on Mobil 1 rebate

From now through October 31st Mobil 1 has a $12 rebate on the five quart jug. Other rebates are available. I buy the five quart jug at Walmart which is currently on sale for $22.88. After the rebate this is down to $10.88 for five quarts. I buy my filters from Lexus Parts World for $4.50. Use cl5 for a 10% discount. I take my oil and filter to my local Toyota dealer who charges me $25 labor. This is $41 for an oil change every 10,000 miles.

Good information. I've been waiting for the rebate to be offered again.

Thanks for the info. This is 50% off the oil alone.

This is a great deal for those who DIY their oil change or like Fred and me, take the oil/filter to someone else to do the labor. The rebate can be submitted on line in a few minutes and you receive your check/s in about 6-8 weeks.

Great information but a heads up and someone please correct me if I am wrong but I do not see Walmart listed as one of the "participating" retailers for the rebate. That is a shame as I normally buy my oil there.

I was told the car holds 6.5 quarts of oil. Not true?

The ES350 requires 6.5 quarts of oil. The ES300h requires 4.6 quarts.

Walmart purchases are a go - I've done 3 of these rebates for oil I bought at Walmart - just upload a pic of the receipt and submit their online rebate form and all should be good. Mobil 1 0w20 Advanced Fuel Economy for around $2.50 a quart incl tax or Extended Performance for around 3.00 - a great deal.

What weight do you like to use? The recommended 0w20?

I've heard people make the case 5w30 is better protection and was the recommended oil for the previous generation ES 350 from Lexus with the same engine, but Lexus switched over to the 0w20 to eek out a few tenths of mpgs at the expense of engine life.

Supposedly the US is the only market Lexus recommends that oil weight (0w20) because we have CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) targets to meet.

Same oil in Canada..but we get the added penalty of more frequent oil changes required. They claim it is for "harsher" Canadian climate, but to me it's just a sop to the dealer network to allow them to collect more $$ in maintenance.

Per the Canadian manual:

If SAE 0W-20 is not available,
SAE 5W-20 oil may be used.
However, it must be replaced
with SAE 0W-20 at
the next oil
change.

I have question related to this thread topic. I am always afraid to buy oil few months in advance. I am afraid if I keep the oil that long it would expire or wouldn't be as good. I usually buy it within couple weeks of the oil change, and I wouldn't need oil change till 5 months from now. But if I wait that long I would miss the rebate. Is there any rational to my thinking? am I wrong to think that way?
I don't see expiration dates on the oil bottles.

GES good question. I also was wondering. ExxonMobil recommends a five-year maximum shelf life for engine oils, including Mobil 1™ synthetic motor oil.

Five years is good period of time. I assume if you keep an unopened bottle for couple months it shouldn't be a big deal. But definitely don't keep it for years.
