Default ES350 spare tire

Will a full size spare fit in the spot where the compact spares is stored?

I haven't actually checked, but non US spec ES's have an option for it. So, my guess is yes, it should be able to accommodate a full size spare.

I think you would have to give up the foam tool holder/cover in order to "fit" a full size tire in there, but I have not tried it either.

In the 2016 Lexus ES350 specifications the tire included with the new car is a temporary spare. There is an option for an alloy wheel and full size tire. So it appears that there is room for a full size tire and wheel that can be bought at the Lexus parts dept..

To bring back a thread. A few weeks ago I bought a new 2017 ES 350. Traded my 2010. I bought a refurbished wheel that matches the car and had the dealer mount a tire. The same tire as on the car, a Michelin 215/55R17. It does fit in the space for the spare. But-- The foam tool holder had to go. Does not fit as it holds the floor/lid up way too high.

If you have wheels bigger than 17 inch, I'd suggest trying one before buying one.

Also the wheel hold down **** bolt is too short to screw down. It is removable from the ****, so I'll source a longer bolt.
The tools will fit in the wheel and the jack handle will fit in the space by the tire. I wrapper everything to prevent noise and scratching, etc.

Even after removing the foam tool holder, the floor/lid doesn't sit perfectly flat as it rests on the tire edges. Not much and seems ok after putting the mat and my vinyl mat back in.

For info: The dealer thought they could install a TPMS and register it with the car because the software they have shows a fifth entry. It does not work. They called their tech support and the Lexus rep said it will not work as there is no TPMS receiver for the trunk. Only one for the front tires and one for the back tires. And the dealer software won't register a fifth TPMS for the ES because of that.

The dealer also discovered that the 2017 TPMS sensor is different from previous years. They didn't know that and had to get some on order.

(Note - my very first time posting anything)

I too replaced my donut with a fifth rim and tire on my 2016 ES350. Same as you I removed the foam tool holder and put a longer bolt on the tire holddown.
My problem is that when I do a 5 tire rotate every 5000 miles the spare was not originally registered into the system. When I put the spare on the car the display showed all dashes rather than tire pressure. As a test I put the original (registered) tire back on in place of the spare and the tire pressure was once again displayed.
If I now re-register the 4 tires that are on the car the same problem will occur the next time I put the unregistered spare on the car during the next tire rotation.
Do you have the same problem? Do you have a solution?

Well, my dealer doesn't do 5 tire rotations (unless you ask, I guess). Even when I had a 2010 ES that came with a real spare with a TPMS registered they didn't rotate it. It never came out of the trunk the entire time I had the car.

I really don't know what will happen if I put the spare on the car. I assumed the display would just show one tire not there and the other 4 at whatever pressure they are. I'll ask the dealer the next time I'm there. It would be the same as putting on the donut spare so they should know.

It would be nice if the car had the ability to register 2 sets of tires or at least 5 so you could do you 5 tire rotation or all people who swap between Winter/Summer tires to easily do that.

For the 5th generation ES350 (2007-2012), you can register all 5 sensors in the TPMS ECU. However, for the 6th generation ES350/ES300h (20013-2017), only 4 sensors are allowed. I normally use TechStream software to update the sensor IDs every time I rotate the tires that involves the full size spare. The extra step is somewhat inconvenient but it only takes a few minutes. Having the full size spare gives us a little more confidence on long road trips.

REF: 2016 Lexus ES350 five tire rotation.
I
have seen that a number of people mention TechStream to reprogram the ECU when rotating tires. It seems that TechStream Lite is over $1300. That’s a lot to reprogram just for tire rotation.

On the Priuschat website some contributors mention a Chinese knockoff of Techstream for about $40 but it appears it would be a major hassle to successfully run on my 64 bit Win 10 machine. Plus who knows what other software is on that knockoff disk?

Does anyone have any experience with the Autel or ATEQ units? For just reading the sensor IDs I’m considering purchasing the ATEQ VT31 TPMS sensor activator (about $140 on Amazon). For programming the IDs into the ECU in the Lexus I am considering the ATEQ QuickSet TPMS Reset Tool (about $120 on Amazon).

Have I overlooked any less costly legitimate alternatives?

The mini VCI cable + TechStream software from Ebay is the least costly and most preferred option for me. TechStream gives owners the ability to look at various data in many other ECU modules than just programming the TPMS ECU. Before switching to TechStream, I used a combination of Autel TS401 ($130) and ATEQ Quickset TPMS tool ($120) which worked relatively well on both of our ES350 and ES300h vehicles (read sensor IDs on Autel -> enter sensor IDs into computer -> save sensor IDs to ATEQ -> program sensor IDs to vehicle). You can also look at the Autel TS501 ($230) which can scan and program the TPMS sensors in a single device.

I spoke to "Vinnie" at the Autel Support Center in Farmingdale, NY this afternoon. He indicated that the TS-508 is replacing the TS-501. It will retail for about $600.
