Navigation System - 2017 vs. 2016
I'm considering the purchase of either a new 2017 ES350 or a 2016 CPO ES350.
Navigation is important to me, and I see the 2017 has the 9th generation system, while 2016 is 8th gen. http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what-to-order/
What are the differences between 8th and 9th generation nav systems?
Thank you.

For me, the biggest improvement in the Generation 9 navigation system relates to the ability to use voice commands to input a destination. With earlier generations, I found that using voice commands was very frustrating. With the Generation 9 system, it seems to be able to understand what I'm saying and find the destination most of the time. The improved voice command capability extends beyond the navigation system, itself, and into other systems, including the climate control system and the audio system. Being able to do things like changing a radio station or changing the temperature setting of the climate control system with my voice is simple, works well, and very nice to have.
Also, the Generation 9 system has the ability to be set up with "bird's eye" map view.
There are likely other improvements, but those are ones that come to mind.

When I was going through the purchase process I drove both a new 17 and a used 16. The navigation is more intuitive in the 17 and seems smoother. Ultimately I decided to go with a non-navigation model because neither was better than google maps and I seldom need navigation. The upgrade to navigation is around 2k. It seems very expensive for something that will be out of date in two years. I understand that you get the enform suite with navigation but you can still link bluetooth audio without enform. I guess what I am saying be sure you really want navigation and are willing to pay the extra cash....
