Driving down to Atlantic City yesterday where numerous casinos are, I watched the people eager to start gambling and pulling the slot levers. Little did they know that they were ALREADY gambling. Gambling with the engines in their car. For probably none of them had the forethought to send a sample of their oil in for analysis. Little did they know that tragedy was just a short way down the road. I wanted to open the window and shout at them " send your oil in" but they were passing my Honda so fast it was not possible.
Alas, it is what it is. We members of CL are the lucky ones because we now know.

One other thing regarding my reading skills: Yesterday I pulled into a driveway the wrong way and blocked a driver coming out. He yelled at me "Hey! can't you read"? and pointed to a "do not enter" sign. I took this under consideration and started reading "War and Peace" last evening. After two hours I was tired and closed the book, marking the first 5 pages that I read.

Those of us who feel confident that, if we are not likely to keep our cars beyond, say, 40,000 miles, we are unlikely to have any issues if we follow the manufacturer's oil change intervals and don't see, for our needs, any reason to use shorter intervals, higher quality lubricants, etc. are being told that we should be concerned about how the engine will hold up for the car's 2nd or 3rd owners.

If we follow that logic the second ownerr who has the car, say, from 40,000 to 80,000 miles, will also, in order to be safe, have to do his/her oil changes at intervals 1/2 that of what Lexus recommends and will also have to periodically take the time and spend the money to have the oil tested, and, if that 2nd owner does not do so, he or she will have problems and not keep the engine in working condition for its 3rd owner. And that third owner will have to do the same thing. My guess is that, even if I follow "best practice" and use more frequent oil changes, higher quality oil, etc., the odds of all future owners doing so is likely small.

I'll also add that I don't doubt for a moment that the technical information presented in this thread is accurate, but what I, and, I suspect, others object to is the manner in which the presentation of that technical information comes across as arrogant, condescending, and laced with personal insults. While it might be useful to some to know what practices can increase the chances of maximizing engine life, I give others enough credit to believe that they can decide for themselves whether, for their uses, using those practices makes sense.

Oh I must have missed the part where I was called a con man, told I had OCD and what ever else was said.

The point was missed by each and everyone of you. I said clearly if nothing else, if you will never bother to be informed, at least go out and use the combination I have found to be able to have a chance to properly sustain the OCI. Then everyone jumps on me like a bunch of ignorant old men, I'll NEVER SPEND A DIME ON a UOA! Did I say you have to?

The fuel economy gains by using that combo pay for themselves, but you guys love jumping on a guy 1/3 your age trying to help you guys out. Then, again this is common of the people in our modern vindictive society and to be expected from a bunch of guys with too many feelings behind a computer.

The joke by BC is funny, at least I thought, but further proof of a vindictive forum that supports that behavior. You guys love to use "I feel" or I think, but they're not based on anything but "feelings" from people that are not engineers in the automotive world. In my world, I'd be laughing stock if I used that. Guess that's why I do work for many including Lexus & Toyota and you guys are on a forum.

Just maybe when you get 2/3 our age you will learn humility. You are just way to intelligent for this car forum. You really need to be spending your precious time in a technical engineering forum where you knowledge can benefit the younger and smarter readers. Your previous post of "I have never sold anything on CL, you guys couldn't afford my time even if you wanted" confirms your lack of humility and you are really wasting your precious knowledge on a bunch of old poor geezers. Surprised the moderators have not stepped in. These forums are great for EVERYONE even us old farts that could not afford your expertise otherwise. Take a chill pill, a deep breathe and grow up.

Not necessarily. With some people, age brings crankiness, a close-minded attitude and an unwillingness to listen to anyone, especially the young. The old demand respect simply because they're old, regardless of obnoxious behavior or personality traits? Doesn't fly with me.

I think danielTLRK's beef isn't with age, it's with not being listened to. I'm on the fence on UOAs - I think the regular OCI is good enough for the big, relatively unstressed ES350 engine but UOAs would be good for turbo and DI engines and those that spend a lot of time at high rpm. If you're going to keep your car to 100k and beyond, the $20 or $50 cost of a UOA (weekend lunch money really) could help keep your car healthy. Lexus are known for reliability but they're not bulletproof.

I guess I'm old, not too cranky. I am willing to listen. Don't have closed mind. I do have lots of experience to draw from. I too am on the fence on UOA's. However, I have a 2008 ES 350 that I put 200,000 miles on. Nothing but regular oil changes. Nothing extra. Never been back to a Lexus dealership for anything. (Never had to do anything)! Just keep tires, brakes and oil changed regularly. Not one problem!! Maybe it's just luck, but I am satisfied enough to have just purchased a brand new 2017 ES 350!

I will ill listen to anyone, old or young. I then apply common sense and rational thinking to the topic and make up my on mind. Just because my car responded to my methods doesn't mean that everyone else's will!!

Isn't it sad the tone, personal attacks and assumptions some are making about people that are in a car forum to learn, share and bloat about their new purchases. GUYS IT IS A CAR FORUM AND A OIL CHANGE INTERVAL THREAD. Grow up!!!! This is one of the negatives about the internet. It has made bullies of people sitting in their parent's basement. Are there not moderators on this site!!!!

Then why comment? You're on a forum spending time discrediting free technical information. You barely drive your car, so maybe this forum is a social avenue for you like FB is to others. It's great and live your life as you should, but why comment on things others may find useful? I understand from your post you may not be around before you need the oil change, I may add I may die by then too, but it doesn't mean there isn't someone on here with an ES300 that they plan on keeping and then passing down to a grandchild, etc. I won't start smoking just because I might get hit by a bus tomorrow.

You can't read so I don't expect you to understand today's post 2007 EPA engines are not anywhere near the same as your 66'. You missed the point entirely, I gave an easy free recommendation if nothing else. Yeah I haven't heard of anyone dying from cancer lately, oh wait I'm not a doctor and you're not an engine guy.

Ton's of engine failures due to oil, not oil deterioration, get your facts straight. But you've never heard of oil analysis, so what would you know. Can you explain all the GDI's, Ecoboosts and DI/FI engines popping left and right at 100,000 miles? Yep, thought so.

You strike me of the pastor neighbor I had who opted out of chemo and surgery at 37 with stage 2 cancer because he believed God would save him. He completely ignored the God believing doctors that were telling him to get treatment.

Stop spreading misinformation and get off this thread if you're going to spread your useless opinions. You've countered not one of my claims with anything remotely scientific, pure opinions based on emotions and BS speculation.
You said in a previous post that you are "being as polite as possible". This doesn't sound polite to me at all. I am a tech guy and know nothing about oil analysis, but if you expect to be credible you can't treat people this way. You are obviously frustrated that people don't merely buy into the information you have offered without question but we don't know you from Adam. I read a great deal of "expert" information from the Internet and I don't necessarily believe everything I read on the web. Don't be so sensitive and don't take it personally if people question you or have dissenting opinions that may not be grounded in science. That's why they call this a "discussion" forum. Oh, and despite your "opinion" of my age, my observations are about manners, not professional respect.

Fred, so when I was called a con man, scam artist and told I have a mental disorder, what was that exactly?

I'm 24 with one child and another one on the way, a wife and a nice lifestyle. I dropped out of MIT at 17 and left my parent's basement well before my 18th birthday, but the basement insult was greatly appreciated. When another person has to resort to personal insults, you become aware they have lost logic in their argument and are using it to make up facts.

Wards, I lost all kindness when this crowd started insulting me. Free knowledge that would cost thousands to gather, but suddenly "feelings" trumped science. I lost my patience when 2+2=22 on this thread.

People don't have to buy into anything and you have missed the point as well, like everyone else. I merely offered the knowledge that the M1EP is the best performing oil for the price off the shelf, along with the XP filter, which are readily available almost everywhere. I have tested too many combinations of pennzoil, castol, mobil, quakerstate, shell, and so many more, to know what works and what doesn't on this Lexus engine without having to do a UOA. It was a suggestion for those that wanted the best oil for the price, that couldn't afford good testing services or didn't want to look too much into it and wanted to resort to a solid tested answer. I also, stated that these engines don't go 10K clean, not without selecting a good combo of filters, fuel and oil. That dealer oil just isn't up to par. Shortly after, I was called a con man and told I had a mental disorder. I don't care if you don't believe me, you haven't sent me a dime of $$$$, any information I post has only lost me time and money. My only satisfaction was the people who directly messaged me asking for more free technical information that can't afford testing.

I have no affiliation to any oil company, one product does not always work in another engine. Every oil & filters have to be properly selected based on UOA, this was my way of sharing for those that don't have $$$ or are on a limited income or who wouldn't know how to digest the science in an easy to grasp manner.

As for the mods, I was contacted directly by a mod who explained that many here will never grasp deep science. I now know how Galileo must have felt in his final years.

I offered to post UOA's to prove my statements, but no one wanted to see those or asked, likely because they would no longer be able to use feelings. If you have 0 understandings of organic/inorganic chemistry, particle physics, tribology, fluid dynamics, metallurgy, combustion analysis or mechanical engineering to understand how to interpret UOA, then merely looking at the values is generally enough to determine whether an oil has performed better or not. When trying to make an oil comparison, it is very easy.

[QUOTE=danielTRLK;9934691]Fred, so when I was called a con man, scam artist and told I have a mental disorder, what was that exactly?
You asked the question so, I re-read all the threads. Go back to your thread #36 and ask yourself are these mature responses. "I also, never said your engine will blow up, it seems you guys can't listen or read". "In regards to alluding that I am a con/scam artist, that really blows that you'd go that low. I have never sold anything on CL, you guys couldn't afford my time even if you wanted". The thread went south from here. What could you have done was not have this condescending attitude, if you felt you were being targeted leave the thread or take the high road and ignored them. It does not surprise me when you stated you are 24. Humility and wisdom are what you acquire over time from life experiences. Trust me on this that you will look back when you were 24 and say "And I thought I knew everything". This is not a cut on you. We all will or have said the same thing. It takes time and being around others with these same qualities. There is nothing more valuable then life experiences. Let this me one!!! Looking forward to your next post. Share your ideas with us all. Let's all get back to talking about oil.

It's time to move on. Dan, if I could buy you a beer I'm sure we'd become friends. If you're not a beer drinker I'd buy you a quart of oil.
I'm quite sure that at this point most members on here get your point and appreciate the valuable information provided. Me included.

Jack Benny (a famous comedian from long ago that you wouldn't know) once said "It's all in the delivery".

Good Luck and keep posting.
