Default Center Console Safe for ES

I've wanted a safe for my ES for awhile. Most are designed to go under the seat, but that's not workable on the ES due to lack of space. I didn't really want it in the trunk. I came across the "Fort Knox Auto Pistol Safe". The dimensions (5" x 9.5" x 6") fit the center console just about perfectly. When I went to install I found that there are two bolts holding the console down, so drilled a couple of new holes in the back of the safe, got some M6x30mm screws to replace the stock 20mm, and now I have a tank of a safe that is nicely fastened to the car and completely hidden in the console.

The 12V outlet is blocked for all but the shortest adapters, but accessing the USB port is no problem.

The safe is available from several online retailers. I have no affiliation with Fort Knox, just reporting on a solution that helped me and might help others.

So is that requirement in your state or just an extra level of safety you have optioned for vs. just keeping the gun in the console or other spot?

I'm in IL. Law requires locked case OR locked vehicle, so I'm going the extra mile. Does no good in there, so I'd rather carry it than leave it. But when I have to I have a little more confidence it will still be there. I don't want a serial number tied to my name floating around, or to provide a weapon for a Chicago gang.

Agree with your point. It's definitely for storage when you need to leave it behind, not a location for rapid access.

Just to be clear, you are talking about the "Fort Knox PB5 Auto Pistol Safe" in your Lexus LS460? Which year car? And this fits in nicely?

Thanks,
Rob

It is a Fort Knox PB5. This thread is from 2017, and that was my 2014 ES 350.
