Default Used from carmax

Hey everyone. I'm looking at a used lexus, 2015 with 7k miles on it from carmax. My question is, will I be able to buy an extended warranty from lexus later on, before the basic warranty runs out? This would not be a cpo car obviously. Thanks.

I certainly understand having the car under warranty because it is a nice piece of mind. Lexus has been #1 in reliability for six years in a row by J D Power. The ES is top rated in it's category again by J D Power. They will be some here that will say save your money. I can not tell you about Lexus but sure the same as my last car which was an Acura. I bought used and within manufacturers warranty period bought an extended warranty. The Acura warranty could be bought at any Acura dealer. I live in NC and bought mine from a dealer in Boston. They are very negotiable with a lot of mark up so there is room for negotiating.

If this is your first Lexus some hints. Here is what I do. Every 10,000 miles, I ask for an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus dealership. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor.

Lexus is ranked as the third least expensive to maintain with the other two both Toyota products. .

Your Lexus Basic Warranty is 4 yr/50,000 miles..Powertrain 6 yr/70,000 Miles,, You may purchase an extended Warranty but If it were mine I wouldnt.. the thing is indestructable..If u wish you may do do... As far as Service, I get mine serviced at the Toyota dealer.. Cheaper and goes into the Same system.. As far as that goes you can get it services anywhere you wish...If u choose to get the extended warranty.. the longer you wait.. the more it costs....

Thanks guys. So just to clarify, If I wanted to I could buy the extended warranty from Lexus ( not carchex etc) at anytime while it's under the basic warranty? It doesn't matter that it's not a cpo Lexus? Do they need to see all the maintancence records in order to get the warranty? Tks again for all the helpful info

Id call to ask.. Ive I were to get a warranty id get a Lexus warranty not a 3rd party warranty.. Im not sure whats avail since I havent had my car long. I had a Honda Pilot and was able to get an extended warranty online from a lexus dealer that sells them online a lot cheaper than at yr local dealer.. There were 2 dealers actually .. Some on here that has purchased one may know if there is any online Lexus dealers that have them.. there are some online dealers that have accessories.. but not sure about Warranties and their coverage and cost.
Might try this...http://fd-warranty.com/

This is actually not the case. If you are still within the factory warranty whether it has 5 miles or 49,999 miles the cost is the same. Dealer may try and tell you that isn't the case to get you to buy it when you buy the car, but its not true.

The only extended warranty I would ever consider is a Lexus Platinum warranty. I would never buy a third party warranty.

It depends on the manuf... also the deductible you choose.....I personally never get one unless its an unreliable car and if that were the case, i wouldnt buy it to begin with..

We're talking about the Lexus Platinum VSA. Doesn't matter what plan, the price does NOT increase based on age or mileage as long as you are within the original bumper to bumper warranty.

This was the OP's question:

Its important that we put correct information out there, the OP was asking about a Lexus warranty, and specifically not a third party warranty. You can buy the Lexus factory warranty at any time from when the car was new to when the factory bumper to bumper warranty expires for the same cost. There is no benefit to buying the warranty before the factory warranty expires, the cost is exactly the same. If you buy a used non certified Lexus, you can buy the factory VSA from Lexus as long as its less than 9 years old or 125,000 miles, but that must be done at the time of purchase. These are the facts.

I understand you've "been doing this for 50 years" but you admit to never having bought a Lexus warranty and not having any idea what their plans are...since thats the subject we're discussing I'm not sure where that leaves us.

In fact, your own advice was to get a Lexus warranty if purchasing a warranty:

Fact is, age and mileage don't matter on cost with a Lexus warranty unless you are outside the original bumper to bumper warranty.

But that's not what you said, you said "the longer you wait the more it costs" with no caveat that you were talking about a third party warranty. Since the topic was Lexus warranties, I don't think it's a stretch that people assumed you were talking about a Lexus warranty. That information is incorrect when applied to the topic of the thread.
