>plus five points
Ummm, what does that mean? Did they enter five points against your license? If so, your insurance company is sure to raise your rate! If that happens you may have avoided the fine but are likely to pay much more in increased coverage cost.

Avoided a huge fine, loss of license, potentially a visit to jail. Not like an ordinary speeding ticket. Insurance going up was a best case scenario.

First ticket in many years? Well, here's a concept that perhaps you might just grasp...SLOW THE HELL DOWN AND DRIVE THE LIMIT BUT NOT ABOVE...got it?

Come on, we're all adults here lol. Everybody at some point in their life will get a speeding ticket.

Though I've never had a speeding ticket in over 50 years of driving, (I am a retired Police Officer), on every highway that I've ever driven virtually no one obeys the speed limit. Be it 5-10 mph over or 20-25 mph over, they all do it and if you are the one obeying the law, you're passed by mostly everybody. As I drive mostly on the PA turnpike and I-95 here on the east coast, I did an unscientific survey as far as speeders. On 95 the limit is 55. They do 65-70. On the turnpike the limit is 70 and most do 80...

Steve correctly stated that traffic should - and does for the most part - "go with the flow". i.e. travel at the speed others around you are doing within reasonable limits.

I've spent some time in Australia where the speeding fines are very strict. Here are the penalties: 12 - 18 MPH over - $406.00. - 19 -24 over $568. - 25 and above - $1,137.00 and a 6 month license suspension. On certain holidays these fines DOUBLE. And they have cameras everywhere.

Good grief... it was actually my only speeding in the 22 years I've been driving. I've been pulled maybe twice for a headlight or something random. Get off your high horse dude. I was driving a car that I was unfamiliar with. I don't drive recklessly as my perfect driving record is proof of that.

To the other poster- plus 5 is the best driving record you can have in Virginia. The charge was dismissed and will not affect my insurance or driving record.

I sure did. I feel very fortunate. The Judge did the same thing for everyone that had a good driving record, was a first offense and had never been to driving school before. But it may clear he'd better not see us back anything soon!!

I don't know if the all caps poster took the time to read this whole thread, otherwise he/she might not have been so quick to make such a judgemental post.

Glad to hear everything worked out and you were able to put this behind you.
