Engine hesitation from a stop
Our 2015 ES 350 Lexus has 5000 miles on it. Since bought new, the car often hesitates for a second or so when accelerating from a dead stop or from a rolling stop. The dealer, Hedrick Lexus in Kansas City, repeatedly says they have never heard of this problem, and doing a database check they find no history of such a problem. With this having been reported so often on this forum, that's hard to believe. This is, in fact, a very dangerous situation. Our questions are, has anyone successfully resolved this problem with Lexus vehicles, and does anyone have advice as to how to further deal with this? We've hit a dead end with our dealership. Does the lemon law apply here? Please advise. Thanks.

I also have a 2015 ES350 with about 5,000 miles on it and mine does the same thing, but only when it is "cold" so for about three or four miles or so it will hesitate a bit when you come to a stop sign but ONLY if you don't let the transmission downshift completely into first gear before attempting to take off from the stop. In other words, a "California" stop or "rolling" stop will cause this to happen but not if you are completely warmed up first. Hope this helps.

Ive not had it happen in my 2016.. Maybe it would help others to help u if u stated what mode yr driving in.. Normal..Eco..Sport..OR maybe drive in all theree and see if it stops doing it in one of the modes. Just a suggestion.to help narrow it down.

I've experience this before, and mainly I saw this during a rolling stop in very cold temps, or when the engine/trans has not warmed up yet. The only thing I don't like about this transmission is that it downshifts into 1st too quickly, even when the speed of your "rolling stop" doesn't warrant a shift into first gear. This creates hesitation, then shifting and a jerk that makes it seem like a cheap car.

The times I've noticed this is when, in a rolling stop I push the gas pedal, but I had used the left foot to break and had not released the brake pedal completely.

This happened to me last night. We reversed out of a driveway, put in D and got a split second of hesitation when I stepped on the gas. It wasn't particularly cold, maybe 65°. My old 2003 ES started doing that too, but I traced it to a split intake hose.

Just as an FYI, I have been checking my "new" 2013 ES against a few of these posts. In regards to the OPs issue, my car is somewhat opposite. After backing out cold, I'll go to neutral than drive and the car immediately moves forward then while I apply the gas, zero hesitation. I'm in Colorado so we have mornings at 45 and I think the record so far was -18.
