Key Fob Question
I am planning to get a replacement key fob for my 2013 Lexus ES 300H. I called up several dealers in Dallas and they are asking for $350 for the key and programming + tax. I checked with one of the dealers and the parts guy mentioned to me that the part # 89904-30a91(Pulled from my VIN#) is discontinued. He said that they don't even carry that Key Fob. I was thinking of getting an unprogrammed key fob from eBay(under $150) or some other site with the correct FCC ID and get it programmed from a Lexus dealer for $55. However, I was not sure if the key fob which I buy from eBay or any other site would be correctly configured because it is discontinued. The Lexus dealer mentioned that they don't guarantee that the key will be programmed successfully if it not bought from them. I contacted few locksmiths but did not get a confident response. Do you guys think I should just take a chance by buying the key which matches the FCC ID and go to a Lexus dealer and get it programmed?. Or it's not worth it?

Theres a mobile locksmith that does that work for used car dealerships in the Dallas area, I forgot the name of the company but I have a number and name, PM me if you are interested. They only charged me a about $200 for a new fob and programming.

I don't know any company that does it for $200. But you can buy a replacement key from eBay by matching the FCC ID. If you are not sure how to locate the FCC ID then you can provide your VIN number to a Lexus dealer and they will pull the exact part # and give you the details. You can then take it to any local Lexus dealer or locksmith. Most of them have quoted me $55.

I would not buy a key off of Ebay, as the OP first mentioned it is hard to find a local locksmith who could program. If I remember correctly the circuit boards are either F or G stamped on them and you still need to find the locksmith with the equipment/experience to do it. I sent the last requester the info that I used to get my $203 fob.

I have a 2014 RX350. How can I leave the key fob in the car and lock the door? ( ie going to beach and in the water)
going to answer my own question. Putting the Fob in a Faraday cage ( sealed metal container) disables it.
