Anyone add ambient lighting LEDs in the doors?
While I had my door panel off recently, I noticed that there's a window on the bottom of the wood trim on the doors for the UL ambient lighting. I think it would be cool to add some LEDs on mine (it's not UL) but am wondering if the power is already run to the door.
Many manufacturers have the same wiring harnesses for all options for a model. I am hoping that the power is in the door already so I can tap into it. Otherwise, I will have to run wires from the under dash lighting so that it dims in drive. I'm not crazy about the idea of running wires to all of the doors to accomplish this.
Any ideas??

I was wondering about this. Pulled the rear door panel off and there isn't any unused plug for the lighting.
There are about a dozen screws holding that one piece of trim on. You can see toward the front of the trim piece where an LED light would snap in. Upper black hole. The light would travel the length of the trim.
Thought i would call and see if i can buy this part.

I have a 2014 UL ES350 that claims there is ambient lighting. The only thing that lights up is inside the footwell ( not the door lights) I looked and my wood panel is as described above. The salesperson ( I bought used ) claims tats all it is?

If your ES is an UL, it definitely should have the ambient light on the doors and, also, running laterally across the dash. For my 2017 UL ES, there is a setting that allows you to enable or disable the ambient lighting. On the 2017, that setting is in the settings for the information display between the speedometer and the tachometer. I'm assuming that there is a similar setting with your 2014, but, since the information display was changed with the 2016 ES re-fresh, the setting might be in a different location.

I have a 2014 ES/UL and I have ambient lighting in both front footwells, all four side doors, and across the passenger dash. The lighting setting is adjusted along with the dashboard lights--unfortunately. I want a dimmer dash and brighter ambient light, but they go together. So find the dashboard light **** on the left of the steering wheel column, on the dashboard. It will be two buttons for dimmer and brighter. If you are not getting ambient lighting on your doors, I recommend you take it in to Lexus--it's broken. And as best I know, this is the same for all the 2013-2017 models (and probably 2018 until they refresh things in 2019...well, that's the rumor, at least.)
The ambient lighting in the footwell works well all the time, but the lighting on the doors looks best on road trips at night. The city lights are too bright for that to matter much.

I must say that I really never noticed the door illumination. I just checked and it is, but very dim. As Kijug stated, the footwell is much brighter. I'll have to play around with the adjustment to find a setting I like.

Ok. The footwell lights work well, I will have to look at the door strips at night to see if it's there. The only other adjustments are in the display button and that just controls the dashboard lighting

Note that the foot well lights are not a part of the "ambient lighting" that comes with the UL package. The foot well lights are a part of the standard interior lighting for non-UL ES vehicles too.
Also, is there not a setting on the 2013-2015 UL ES that allows you to turn off the ambient lighting and that is separate from the instrument panel light level setting? There is such a setting on my 2017 UL ES.

Stopped by the parts counter and they showed me that there is not a part/bulb listed for the trim. Another guy working there said that you have to replace the trim piece with the light. Seems odd but not surprising.
I'm going to install some small LEDs and see what it looks like.
