Default 2013 ES XM Navtraffic

Does anyone have the XMNavtraffic in their ES? Does it just work on major highways or does it also work on streets, etc?

I have it in my es but I don't think it kicks in until my free Sirius XM trial is completed in a couple of months. It is not showing under my app section, only the Traffic Incidents app is and I believe that is HD Traffic.

I have refreshed my signal but still no app.

Thanks.

I have the option turned on in my 2013 ESh but I never see any traffic. I think you need to have a subscription?

IMHO the 2015 and up traffic is much better than the XM traffic and it is free. I have the XM Traffic in my 2013 and they are showing more roads than they did when I bought the car new but they are only major roads. Any traffic incidents show as icons on the map, you can click on the icon and see what they say about it.

The XM traffic does require an active XM subscription. Also, it provides information from traffic incidents only in areas that seem to be limited to larger metropolitan areas. I live out in the country, and, when I have checked to see what traffic incidents are reported, the ones that I find always seem to be 100 miles or more from me and from what I'd describe as being medium-sized or larger metropolitan areas.

Where is that free traffic located? What is the name of that feature? Thanks

I have the XM Nav Traffic feature in my 2014. It only shows major highways and even outside of major cities it may not show traffic. Last winter I drove I75 from Detroit to Tampa and traffic was shown in the major cities but was blank in some rural areas. Interestingly if there was a traffic incident it showed even in those areas where traffic was not plotted.

If you drive mainly on city streets or non-major highways Google maps is far better. I also found that Google maps was much more responsive to changes in traffic flow. XM was as much as 20 minutes late. But it is awkward to watch my cell in the car if not illegal when hand held.

If you have the 2015 or 2016 model it is part of the navigation map. See if this video helps.
