Fob start is short range (80 feet) & short response time (5 seconds)
Phone start is infinite long range & long response time (30 seconds)
If you are looking at the car, use the fob, if you are ridin' in on the train
or still in your 7th floor office, use the phone.

Great tip! Will this remote start continue to work if you cancel the subscription to the Lexus App/service?

Send the car back to the factory? In Japan? I guess you mean dealer installed, I dont see why not..... I am sure they will charge you a bundle. But no guarantee that they dont send it to a local installer.....

I already looked into this way back when... I can't say if the dealer will send it out or they install the factory remote there at the dealer site. For my 2013 ES350 it was $500.00. The smartphone edition, according to the parts department, could not be installed. BTW, that one was $700.00. That being said, other members on here that have '13 ES cars have posted that the smartphone remote COULD be installed on a 2013 and had it done.

I went the way of an aftermarket remote - no smartphone - and it was about $275.00 installed. Works with the Lexus smartkey remote and starts the car exactly the same way. Three pushes on the lock button. The engine also stops when you open the door to get in.

I have installed a -Fortin Evo All -aftermarket system in my car . it uses the lexus remote to start the car by pressing lock 3 times. I actually installed it myself. If you are handy you probally can do it however it will require you to remove some panels under the steering to tap into some of the wires required to set it up, it was not a complicated job as they provide you with a clear diagram as to what wires to splice and where to find it. If you have a lot of experience splicing and soldering wires you can do it yourself. the actual starter module cost me about 100 dollars and you will also need a flash module if u want to program it if u choose to change the factory setting for instance how long u want it to remain started . etc. all in all it was about a 2 hr job.

You can install the factory RES+ on a '13 ES. I did it on mine. The factory Lexus kit is available online from several dealers. It's plug and Play but you will need to take it to the dealer to have it registered on the CAN BUS once all the parts are in. You will also need to remove some dash trim parts to get the job done but it's not too bad. I ordered mine from Autonation Toyota online.

Default ES350 Key Fob Circuit Board

My FOB went for a swim and is not working now. Have any of you been able to purchase the circuit board, the key and case are fine. Thoughts or suggestions appreciated?

Surprising. I had a FOB go through the washing machine (full cycle) in a pants pocket a couple of months ago. I opened it up to see if there was any evidence of water inside and "dry as a bone". Gave it a test and it worked (and continues to work) just fine. Impressed.

I would ensure it is thoroughly dry (rice, oatmeal, hair dryer); and then try a new battery in it before just chucking it out and trying to buy a new one. It might just need reprogramming though.
