Bike in Backseat??

I just do not understand not buying a bike you want to have and ride at the beach because it won't fit in the backseat, and buying a beater car JUST to take a bike to the beach...
Its a nice car...but its a car. If you can't use it to transport you and what you want to transport to where you want to go...its of no value to you.
I'm as crazy as they come when it comes to cars...but this is nuts IMHO. It will destroy the interior of the car, BUT a good bike rack won't hurt the exterior...and it will be much cheaper than a beater car...

I fit two bikes in the back of my 300h. A men's 26 inch frame (I'm tall) and a women's bike (not sure frame), both with 26 inch wheels. Had to remove the front wheels from both, struggled to get them to fit. Used a blanket to protect seat. Big hassle that I would not repeat. One bike one time might be reasonable, but if you will be transporting regularly (or even occasionally), get a rack.

My van is probably happier now just making trips to the beach No more sitting in traffic for an hour each day - no more ongoing abuse from the kids - just goes out on the weekend to get some sun And she's a heck of a lot cleaner now too.
