Side moldings DIY: is std. location too low to protect from dings?

I considered raising the molding higher on the door and actually taped them on at a greater height to see. I didn't like the appearance of them at the higher location so I reverted to the factory installation measurements. There is, in my opinion, NO molding that will protect from every size and height car door that contacts your doors and does damage.

This is true, but I think higher up it wouldn't look OEM. The moldings from Lexus at least look OEM in their placement.
