Default Aftermarket Remote Start. Help me to decide!

Hello! I was looking to buy the original Lexus Remote Engine Start: PT398-33131, but today found on ebay this item:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Add-on-Remote-Start-for-Lexus-ES350-with-Push-To-Start-2008-2013-5-wire-Install-/360755451828?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53feb357b4&vxp=mtr
It costs 150$ less than original Lexus part but it seems it is doing the same thing!

So, do you think it worth?

Let me know!

Thanks!

Yes, they both will 'do the same thing', i.e., they will remotely start your car, but that's like saying a Yugo and an ES350 are the same because they both have 4 wheels.

Aftermarket RS have more range than the Lexus RS. Search this site for posts by people who are very unhappy they paid more and got less range.

Aftermarket RS requires another keyfob be carried.

Aftermarket units can usuallly do a lot more than just start your car.

Depending upon the year of the ES350, the engine may stop when you open the door after remotely starting it. NOTE: This is due to the Lexus security system, not the aftermarket RS unit.

I have an 2013 ES300h not ES350. Also, if you'll read description of product, you'll find:

The EVO-ALL Data Module will not only start your car, but will also temporarily override your vehicle's antitheft key only when the remote start is activated - leaving the antitheft system 100% functional. The bypass connects to the vehicle through a data connection which eliminates a lot of the wiring traditionally associated with remote start installation. Unlike cheap generic bypasses, ours does not require you to leave a spare key in the car.

So, this is not a separate alarm system(isn't necessary to carry one more fob), it is module for remote start and i don't think it will change the range because it will be necessary to use the same Lexus OEM Fob.

So, what do you think it this case?

Is the same module like oem one only with different brand on it?

If you are happy with not having any more range than the OEM remote provides, go for it.

I've done research on having an aftermarket RS installed due to the many complaints posted in this forum.
I was informed that Toyota is the only manufacturer where the engine shuts down when the doors are opened.
Acura, Nissan, Honda, etc, etc. do not. I contacted an aftermarket dealer for Viper - which I had installed in an Acura - and that required an additional keyfob. This particular dealer claimed that he did all the installs for the Lexus/Toyota dealer for aftermarket RS. This included my dealer. He further explained that some aftermarket equipment can void your factory warranty. Whether this was all BS designed to make a sale, I don't know. This is for sale on Amazon for $60.99. Read the reviews... I would, however, be very careful what I buy and who installs a non-Lexus RS.

No, it is not a real Lexus part. No one said it was, by the way.

I used your link in the post above to check the Ebay item you are asking about. On the Ebay listing compatibility chart, this item IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 2013 ES350 OR 300h.

On the Fortin website it states that it IS compatible. ???

Yes, they told it is 100% compatible with ES300h. I bought it already. Will post later how it is working! Thanks!

Did you have it installed yet? If so, let us know if it works correctly and how the range is. Thanks...

I'll have it installed this week, and will let you know!

If it works using original keyfob, the range is exactly like for the key! there is no connection between remote start system and range. Car starts when you press 3 times on lock button from your existing lexus key!

OK Thanks. If good, this is a whole lot less than the Lexus remote and does the same thing...
