Water on the brain
SIster has a nice new es 350.
Long story short, its been raining like **** here in Mississippi. She ran through a pot hole last night and the check engine light came on and the speakers stopped working for the audio.
Went to the dealer ship. They changed the oil because it was time, then they told her she needed to call the insurance to make a claim for water damage. I never heard of any computer or audio computer being in the reach of water under the car. WTF is going on here.

I think that you nailed it when you said "water on the brain". Bad news is that it sounds like a computer board was damaged. Definitely a "WTF" moment...
We're getting that storm up here (PA) later today. Calling for 50-60 mph winds and up to 12" of rain.

Sounds like a serious design flaw if water can get into sensitive areas of the car in heavy rain.

You might try another dealership and see what their diagnosis is.
Also, try a Search here to see if any similar problems have been reported. I don't recall seeing any which may or may not rule out a design flaw.

How deep was the pot hole?

I don't know how deep the water would have to be to hit a computer board, but it doesn't have to be very deep before you can start to get wiring wet. There are, for example, wiring harnesses under the door sill plates of probably all vehicles, and the water would not have to be that deep before it would be higher than that level, and, if the insulation on any of the wires was compromised, it could lead to causing virtually any electronic component to fail.
