Could be, but in the garage there is definitely a very slight up then down, you may be right that they are just powering on and creating that appearance. Definitely high pitch buzzing, however.

But if it's not leveling, why this note on p. 226 in the '13 manual? (what other option is there?)

■Automatic headlight leveling system (if equipped)
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of passengers
and the loading condition of the vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not
interfere with other road users.

Jim- the buzzing may be the HID igniter at startup. There is 'load sensing', as shown with the diagram near the rear axle earlier. Perhaps,the 'auto' leveling option is available in other markets outside NA.

My my take on the 'auto' leveling feature not found on the current ES.

Default HID questions

Thank you Jollick for taking the photos, even though not on my dealer window sticker, it looks like my UL ES300h is equipped with HID headlights based on your photos.
