The 3 month trial subscription that came with my ES350 is about to expire. I've read in threads on other forums that, when people have called and said that they wanted to cancel their service, they have either been offered a 5 month subscription at about $25 or a 1 year subscription at about $75. When I tried calling the numbers in those threads and said that I wanted to cancel my subscription, I have not been offered anything more than a token discount to continue my service.

Has anyone here been able to get either the $25 for 5 months or $75 for one year when their trial subscription ran out? If so, what did you do differently from what I did?

Thanks.

Just wait, they will send you offer after offer after offer.

Personally, I just listen to my iPod.

I just got an offer in the mail today for 1/2 off for a year ($86 w/no activation fee). My subscription just expired. It might not hurt to let yours and see if you get the same offer.

In the past I've received the $77,year price by calling and telling them I'm cancelling because the price is just too high for the amount I use it. It's always worked.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions and input.

In my first call, I got a regular CSR, and he offered me nothing. I made a second call to a different number, and, when prompted by the automated system, I said that I was calling to cancel service. The only thing that the retention rep offered with either the upgrade to the package that includes internet access for the same price as the premium package or a reduced basic package at $10 per month.

I suspect that you are right and that, if I let the subscription expire, I'll get more favorable offers. I have one week left in the trial subscription.

Does anyone know, with the $86 for a year offer or the $77 offer, about how much gets added on in taxes and fees? While it would be nice to be able to have the service, the amount I would likely be using it is not enough for me to be able to justify paying more than a relatively small monthly or annual fee.

Stream your music.

I've got Sat and Google play music. I'm not going to keep the Sat much longer.

Streaming isn't a practical option. I live out in the country. There, 4G service is non-existent, and even 3G service is spotty. When I've tried using the internet apps, I may or may not be able to establish a connection, and when I am able to establish a connection, I will be likely to lose it within a matter of minutes. Heck, I'm lucky if I can complete a short phone call from the road. Plus, my interest in keeping the Sirius XM service is more for sports and news/talk than it is for music. Again, I won't use it enough to be able to justify spending close to $200 a year to maintain it, but, for a few dollars a month, I would be willing to maintain the service, which is why I have an interest in knowing about the experiences of others in being able to get discounted Sirius XM service.

While I'm not crazy about the sound quality of XM, I do like the variety that it offers - Especially on long trips which we frequently take. I don't have a huge music collection but we've heard everything in it - No surprises. I like to try different stations and music genres offered by satellite. We've come across several types of music that we wouldn't have considered otherwise as well as some news, information and entertainment outlets that are interesting from time to time. I'll probably keep it as long as I can get a reduced price.

I took this rental Mercedes c250 to Utah last year, none of the radio channels had signal and I listened to SAT the entire week I was on vacation there. It was also a 8 hour drive back home so I listened to it at that time too. Loved it and I got it for my truck once I got home. But it was cheaper than $70 for a year, that's what I remember.

Thanks for the link. Since it says that the $25 for 6 month subscription only applies to those without a current subscription, that would explain why I had no success in my attempts to get it. So, I guess I need to wait a week until my trial subscription expires.

I have been doing this for several years, initially at $68 per year, then $77, now $86+ a user fee. When I did this for the 300h, with fees it was $96 and change.

I have been reading that Pandora and some of the other streaming services do not take up very much of the wireless data plan. If this is true, then that may be an alternative to XM, as well as mp3.
