I am looking to buy some service parts from Sewell Lexus and noticed that they now sell a $50 charcoal cabin filter for the 2014 which also fits the 2007-2013 models. But they also sell the $20 non-charcoal version but indicate it is only for the 2007-2012 model years. Therefore I assume both filter types would physically fit the 2013 and 2014 but that Lexus is saying that the 2013/2014 should only take the charcoal type. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks.

Go to Walmart and by a Fram charcoal filter for far less m oney.

The charcoal in the filters is treated with chemicals and heat to give it specific odor-control properties. Charcoal traps odor-causing gases by adsorption (not absorption), and therefore holds the gases on the surface of the charcoal treated media. Because charcoal is porous, the filter has a very high capacity for trapping noxious gases.
Do you operate your Lexus in an area that has slow moving traffic or strong odors like a paper mill? If so, you might find spending the extra on a charcoal filter worth it.
