Default Has anyone with LDA tinted their front windshield?

I would like to tint my windshield around the LDA and auto defrost sensor (70% tint). The manual says not to tint the windshield (LDA and auto defrost section of manual). Has anyone tinted the front windshield? If so, was the LDA affected in any way?

I'm surprised any state would allow front window tinting.

However, if the manual says no... duh!

I had 3M Crystalline 90% installed on the front windshield and I haven't noticed any difference in the way LDA behaves so far.

Many states don't allow front side window tinting either, but that doesnt mean don't do it...... duh!

How do you get away with tinted front windshield windows?

I would love to do it but getting a ticket and then having it removed would be such a PITA and waste of money.

I looked at the 3M Crystalline 90% mentioned above and it's barely noticeable, if at all. This % is used mainly for UV and heat reduction. Darker tints on the windshield are just asking for trouble. Around here at least.

That's actually a great idea! I would do it for the UV protection.

However, I have a suction cup phone mount attached to my front windshield. I don't think that would work as well on a tinted surface?

The suction cup might cause a problem. You could ask an installer and see what they say.

Thanks for the reply. I never thought about 90% tint...I think that is a good idea. I am going to go to my local tint shop and see if the 3M Crystalline produces a rainbow effect when using polarized sunglasses. If the effect is not noticeable I will put the 90% 3M Crystalline tint on my windshield

I was not considering tinting my windshield but I was really impressed with the heat rejection from my huper optik tint on my side windows. I considered the Crystalline for my side and rear windows but it was over my budget.

Yea, it wasn't cheap. I believe it was $299 for the windshield, but I did pay a bit of a premium since the installer I went to only stocked the 70, 50, and 40 Crystalline tints and had to order a whole roll of 90 to take care of my request.

That said, the car is MUCH cooler and the intense heat you feel from the sun while driving is greatly diminished.

I have a pair of glasses with the Transitions driving lenses in them and I haven't seen one iota of a rainbow effect. YMMV....

Did you ever get a chance to check this out, ESh888? I'm hoping to use the Crystalline 90, but there is no nearby installer for me to check it out with first.

I have it tinted with Suntek Infinity OP (metallic). Yes I know that metallic is supposed to block cell phones, gps, and radar but I have absolutely no issues. The range is still the same as my W12 without it's windshield tinted.

I have my radar hardwired to the right of the rear view mirror and I use Escort's new stickycup and it works great. The tint is 50% so it looks minorly reflective from the outside but completely clear, no blur, and not dark on the inside. I had my doubts as this was the first time tinting the windshield but if you have a reputable shop it will turn out nice.

I added LLumar ceramic tint (50%) to the windshield and had no problem but did go back to get it removed due to less light coming through and old eyes! Install didn't have 90% but that is what I should have gone with.
