I was looking at my engine yesterday. I love the fact that it's all open and no engine covers! Anyway, I was specifically interested in the intake. It has a scoop in the front like my previous Lexus cars. However, there's a box on top. My ISF had a small box on top of its stock intake tube to help silence/deaden the intake sound. Is that what this is on top of the ES300h's intake scoop? The part I have circled appears to be all one piece and goes right into the filter box.
Interesting. Never heard of an intake silencer. Does the intake make that much noise?
On the F, not really. But Lexus wanted to try to tone down the noise to keep the F interior noise lower. The stock intake has what some people call a "snorkel" or "silencer" which is just a bubble thingy on top of the intake (see pic). Most of us opted for the JoeZ which eliminated the silencer and gave the intake a more throaty sound - plus an extra 5 horsepower.
