Installing radar detector in 2013 ES350
I am having a hard time finding a switched 12 volt lead under the dashboard in my 2013 ES350. I have installed under the hood radar detectors previously in the 2002 and 2007 ES without difficulty but can't find the switched 12 volt in the 2013. Anyone done that? I would appreciate information.

If you use a fuse tap, you'll have to mod the fuse panel cover for the tap to fit.

Yes, I mounted an Escort QI45 under the hood. Thank for the suggestion but I found a clean solution today. The cigarette lighter in the back of the console has switched 12 volts. The plastic panel that it is attached to pops right off. Routing the wire on the side of the console behind the plastic panel that runs along the entire length of the console is easy and totally hides the wire.

radar detectors are a waste of money. imo ive used a radar gun before it can pick you up before your radar can even pick the gun up once you hear your "beep" on the radar the cop already clocked your speed. slowing down just depends on the cop if he wants to give you a ticket or not. i was able to gun down the speed of a airplane.

I was going to ask the same thing. I have a valentine and it uses a phone cord to power it. In my BMW I powered it through the homelink power in the roof/light area. Does anyone know if that's possible in the ES? I am still waiting delivery on mine so I can't even look at it yet.

In your very specific case, yes you are right. If you are the only guy out on the road and the cop is shooting each car as they go by, you will have a LEO encounter.
In most cases though, a LEO has the forward and rear (non LIDAR) guns armed and running all the time. Any decent detector will pick this up from an easy 3/4 mile away and give you plenty of warning to slow down. In the case of LIDAR, unless you happen to pick up some splatter you are busted. I have a Blinder HP that works well down to about 150 yards. Again, this is plenty of time for me to slow down. Ask me how I know, because my BIL is a traffic LEO in Dallas and I spend plenty of time with him and other LEOs.
I would be careful about shooting radar at any flying aircraft. There are laws about aiming any type of transmitting devices at an aircraft. But, I'd love to hear more details about what speed you saw, how far the aircraft was....
