Default are dealers trading with each other?

when i bought my previous toyotas, dealers would trade with each other. (ie - Dealer A says to Dealer B "i have a customer who wants the White Camry on your lot......Trade that one for a Black one on our lot?")

Do lexus dealers trade with each other?
I just had the thought that I'm approaching the whole search from the wrong angle.......

I should find the dealer with the right car vs have the dealer find the right car for me?

I assumed cooperation between dealers, but maybe it doesn't apply with lexus dealers?

Yes, Lexus of Seattle traded with Lexus of Portland to get the color combo etc I wanted. It costs them money so they are not typically over joyed at doing it. They are both part of the Kuni dealership empire.

Around here they trade with each other. My Lexus was originally delivered to another area dealer before I got it. With a new model that's still in high demand there may be less of it going on until sales slow down a bit.

I also was told that when Toyota dealers trade, they just drive the car but for lexus, they use flatbeds.

So I it would make sense that cars in the same dealership family would be more likely to trade but it would be the exception rather than the rule....

My Lexus was from a different non-related dealership and was driven, so it had a few miles on it.

Yeah mine was a dealer trade. It had 57 mikes on it, so I'm thinking it was driven instead of flatbedded.

Mine was a dealer trade and was also driven to the dealership. It had 138 miles on it when I got it. Made me a little mad that someone else got to drive my new car before I did.

I stated in another thread that my car had about 90 miles on it after being driven from Lexus of Santa Monica to Lexus of Santa Barbara - if you want a certain color or option - let the dealer find it for you.
