Hello all,

I've been working with a local dealer to put in a "preference request" for a ES 300H that is customized to my needs. Essentially, I want the Luxury package but no leather seating due to my, lets say, vegan sensibilities. In any case, the dealer tells me that there is no negotiating room in such circumstances, and that full MSRP applies. Has this been your experience too?

My dealer wanted $1500 over invoice for a special order vehicle a year or so ago.I don't know if that's changed with a new design model.
Dealers want to sell out of inventory or something coming in.I'm told they get more volume sales credit that way and not on a special order for whatever reason.I don't know if that's true or not.

Not in AZ - I ordered a Luxury Package ES350 last week for December delivery and got the same deal as what they had on the floor and enroute. And without some of the options like 18" wheels and rear sunscreen so a pretty good savings.

My buddy Koz here special ordered his at the time new design '11 GX460 at my dealer and it was $1500 over invoice.
You got a good deal.Dealers usually want more for a special order.
I guess if you're a good customer,you'll get a better number.

The luxury package includes leather seats so having a car built different from the usual Lexus USA package is different from most special orders. Paying full list price in this case is probably right. The package also includes a wood and leather steering wheel so a different wheel would also be needed. These things can be done I'm sure, but this would not be a simple "fill in the blanks" order.

main reason is a car that is on the lot is costing them money each day. What reason do they have to discount to special order a car that isnt on the lot and doesnt exist.

I don't believe there is a "Lexus Law" requiring a dealer to charge MSRP for a special order vehicle. I'm sure you know that each Lexus region has standard packages with a set of options the dealers in those regions believe will be most popular with customers, making the vehicles easier to sell. When a customer, like you, asks a dealer to special order a vehicle with different options than what is standard, like no leather, if you decide to forfeit your deposit and not buy the car, the dealer will be stuck with a car which could be on the lot for a long time, or sold at a very reduced rate. Charging MSRP for the car gives the dealer acceptable profit to assume the risk of special ordering the car for you.

I just got mine and I was slightly under MSRP but a guy down the street wanted the same thing as you do. The two dealers he went to here in the Dallas area, both wanted an additional fee for a leather free car.

I don't know to what level you follow the vegan lifestyle but as a heads up, or something to look into if it concerns you, most glues, some plastics, anti-freeze in the radiator, fabric dyes and lots of other stuff we find in automobiles have animal byproducts in them.
