New ES spotted in China

Thanks Gatoman39 for the predator picture. Thought of that immediately when I saw the first picture of the nw GS350. Maybe they will design the other Lexus models after the Joker. But.... Looks much better in the flesh (the GS350).

The differences between the ES and GS are so subtle, that it looks like "lazy design" to me. Like they designed the GS, then said we'll just carry everything over to the others. The design carryover to the 2013 RX is even a little "forced" into the vehicle. That's very dangerous to have so many cars looking basically the same with no distinguishing look separating the two (or more). If the LS ends up being a BIG ES... that's going to be a big fail.

I think the new ES looks good. However, I too am not liking the same near identical design theme across each model range that Lexus is now doing. Don't like the approach on Audi, dont like it on Lexus. I feel as if the cars need to have differences in order to appeal to various customers. I loved the way the 2nd gen GS was so different from everything else Lexus made at the time. I with they would go back to this approach for at least a few of their models.

That's one fugly car.
I love the new GS and if I had more time, I would've gotten a 2013 GS instead of a 2011. But man, that ES is just plain ugly. Nothing flows in the design. The front got that stupid thick upper lip grill. The side is just plain and the back is from a Hyundai.
I'd take the 2012 Acura TL over this any day of the week.

It depends if you lease, then you dont care care if car has bugs or reliability issues. When you long term buyer, you dont always want to take your chances on quality. Getting last year of a model that had a successful run, gives you good odds on quality. Again, depends if you just leasing, or keeping it.

So far with what I have seen I don't like the design, looks a bit bloated and overdone with a mix of design cues. I'll save final judgement though until more photos are available and get a chance to see the car in person.

Don't like those wheels on the ES. I mean we won't even get these cars in Australia. Wish we got the model before this new one as they looked great. Also that body piece between the grill and bonnet is a bit out there. Unfortunately the whole new Lexus look tends to remind me alot about our local Holden Specialised Vehicles

I no longer want to be guinea pig to evaluate new creations.

This design is a miss IMO, the car looks like boat in the back. The 07-11 design is more angular. The design reminds me of a wannabe Sonata, which by the way looks better. I was so much rooting for this design and I had plans to trade up my 09, by never for this ES. I may have to wait or look at something else, something I thought I would never do.

Those cheap bastages... it has the same shifter ****!! ... and they're gonna consider it a "complete redesign..." Pfft..
I think I like it - only thing I really don't like is that thick bar on the top of the grill - just not crazy about the transition from hood to grill.
Like others have mentioned - it looks like a mini-LS, which is great since I love the current LS.

What happened with the dashboard??, there does not seem to be a coherent flow to it? Guys I may have to sit this design out. Have you seen the interior of the 2013 Cadillac XTS?, this car is drop dead gorgeous inside. Where is the design team that designed the 09 ES. Did they get fired? What's up?. I showed these pics to my dealer in ATL and he admitted that there is some semblance to the Sonata. Not good, not Lexus like. In fact I find the redesigned Camry a better looking car. Why did Lexus make the ES bigger, wrong move, might as well get a fully loaded Avalon Limited. The Avalon actually looks better inside and IMO has an edge on the exterior. Right now I'm just frustrated with this design. I'm not sure I can stay in the Lexus column. I'm enjoying my 09, but there is no upgrade path for me with this design, which I was looking forward to. I don't think seeing the car in person will change MO.
