Spied: 2013 Lexus ES

A close-up of the ES’ gauge cluster reveals a tachometer that appears to have the words ‘Charge’, ‘Eco’ and ‘Power’, indicating that this particular prototype is for an ES Hybrid. That’s big news for Lexus ’ best-seller as a hybrid powertrain has thus far been reserved for the ES’ lesser platform mate, the Toyota Camry.
If the Camry Hyrbid’s powertrain carries over unchanged, we can expect a 2.5L four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor providing a combined 200 horsepower. The Camry Hybrid achieves 43mpg in the city and 39mpg on the highway, netting a combined average of 41mpg.
Although a hybrid version of the Camry has been on the market for several years now, the ES has maintained its V6-powertrain in the name of upholding Lexus’ premium brand image. However, cylinder count in no longer synonymous with prestige, allowing Lexus to launch a four-cylinder hybrid version of the ES sedan.
No word on when we might see the 2013 Lexus ES in the flesh, but we wouldn’t rule out the upcoming Chicago or New York auto shows.

It was cute for people to call the ES a Camry back in the early 1990. Its 2012 now and its simply ridiculous to state.
It wouldn't
You are absolutely correct.

I know its hard for people after 20 years to not jab the ES with the usual remarks but it is by far the best selling Asian luxury sedan and while the internet thugs like to make fun of it, it has done a tremendous job for Lexus and for the entire Asian entry luxury market.

No one is offended. Going in any ES thread in the universe has the same commentary that is so outdated its not funny. Meanwhile the ES soldiers on as a success any brand wishes they had for over 20 years.
My ES days are over, I rarely ask for them for loaners and the car does not appeal to my wants. I still can appreciate it for being a fantastic example of fulfilling wants and needs for other people without constantly bringing up Camry.
The GT-R is built on the same identical assembly line as the Skyline/G35/37 and it would be condescending to bring that up in a GT-R thread.
My response was really for everyone as there are multiple ES jabs in an ES thread (as usual) on a Lexus forum.
