Default Broken Cruise Control Stalk

When I bought my 2014 ES/UL I paid the extra $1500 for Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC, it wasn't free back then!) I've always wanted such and justified the cost. I use cruise control nearly all the time; on residential thoroughfares, highways, rush hour, etc.

So it seems after six years of pushing in the cruise control button, then pushing the stick forward to enable cruise control, the internal contacts are giving out. I have to push harder, push several times, etc.

My next maintenance at Lexus I'll probably get it replaced (I'm going on 95K). I use it nearly all the time (did I say that?) Last I asked they said it would be about $400. However...LOL...I forgot to ask if that included labor. D'oh! Knowing Lexus, it'll be another $400 for labor. I can justify $400 but much more than that...I'll be bummed. But there are cheaper fix-it places if that's the case. Apparently it is just replacing the stalk, so shouldn't be too big a deal.

Anyone else have a failed cruise control stalk?

No defective cruise stalk but instead of paying $400. + labor, I'd check with your local salvage yard for a used one. Must be a load of them around by now. Also, spend an afternoon replacing it yourself and save a load of dinero.

I wonder if cleaning the part might actually be effective. Those areas around the steering wheel seem to collect a film when they aren’t cleaned regularly. Could be clogging the path of the button.

I'm having the same problem in my 1993 MR2, which believe it or not uses the exact same stalk as my 2016 ES. There are several things that can cause this problem, from a bad cruise control module to fuses, to the stalk. So if you just asked Lexus "how much to replace the stalk," then you don't know what they're gonna charge because their diagnosis might find the problem in a different component.
