2013 Lexus ES 350 TPMS Sensor / programming/ resetting
 

hi All,
I have looked around and around but didn't find much on programming/ resetting TPMS light.. So here is the problem I have.

2013 / ES 350 / Original Stock wheels 17 in with 215 / 55 / R17 Tires. All was working great, the reading of the pressure was to the T on display.

The problem arose when I put new tires (235 / 50 / ZR17). The display screen shows " --- " for a all tires. the Low Pressure Tire Indicator light is blinking and then solid lit.

I have tried the reset procedure
I didnt have any luck...

While the technician at the shop changed the tires, I know for a fact that NONE of the sensors were damaged during the process..
so my question is , what can be the problem ?? Can I not have different size tires on the stock wheels ? It's hardly possible for all 4 TPMS sensors go bad ..

Any advise would be hepful.

I believe that the TPMS warning system displays the "---" on each tire if only one of the sensors fails to communicate properly with it's receiver in the wheel well. It's possible you've got a failed battery in the sensor, a disconnected wire (it's happened and been reported on here before), a sensor damaged during the installation of the new tires, or a bad receiver. You'll need to get someone who can program/reset those things to do a check and see if they can spot which one is DOA.

Is there a way i can check if any sensor is bad without taking the tire off the wheel ? are there scan tool available for this ?

There are scan tools that will check the sensor for signal but you'd be best to go to a good tire dealer. Should not be any need to go to a Lexu$ dealer for something simple like that. If you had the tire replacement done by a competent dealer they should have reset/checked the TPMS for you. I'd have asked them beforehand if they had that capability. Good luck.

If you have techstream it would read the pressure on each tire. It would isolate a bad sensor.

Chetxus - I had the same problem that you describe. I went to a local tire store, in my case, Town Fair Tire. They came out to my car with a hand held signal sensor and quickly identified which sensor was not working. They first replaced it with a generic sensor that they thought would work. It did not - it was not compatible with the Lexus system so they got one from the Lexus dealer. That solved the problem The total cost was around $65. And by the way, it is correct that when one sensor is bad the reader out on the dash shown no pressure reading for any of the four tires.

I also had tpms problems after a tire change. Glad to know it wasn’t just me. Had the light come on the first time I restarted the vehicle. I wrote it off to a dead battery but if it happens again in the future I’ll be sure to follow up.

I just went thru the same scenario, it is a bad sensor. Most of the shop scan tools don't pick it up. I had to go to the dealer, and got gouged for $345
Maybe it was just time for it to go out. Mine started mal functioning when the temp dropped 30 degrees, typical okla this time of year. It was hell for a week trying to figure it out, and going to two different tire shops. I would work for awhile, and then go flat line. Good luck!

Pressures change by roughly 1 psi per 10 deg. F. I have seen 33 psi at a “cold” temperature of 50F quickly increase to 36-38 psi going down the highway. Up here we have gone from summer highs of 100F to winter lows of -40F (although rarely). What some do is drop their tire pressures to 28-30 psi, then do a reset on their TPMS followed by raising pressures back to 33 psi just before winter sets in. That gives them the monitored range and tolerance they need to avoid false warnings on extremely cold mornings. This is usually done when installing the snow tires in late October-early November.

Before TPMS we never had an idea that pressures changed so much.

That is good info to have. I just got the wrong tech, or there scanner was not working right. I have always had good luck with Hibdon for oil changes, tires, brakes, alignment they have 12 locations or more. I will try a different location next time. Thanks.

I had all my wheels replaced with aftermarket Curva C7 10x9 30mm offset. And didn’t have to go to dealer to calibrate all TPMS. Normally most tires shop shop have a tool to calibrate TPMS.

mine won't blink 3 times in that type procedure. It is just blank. I have to turn the engine on, then push the reset button, and then it will blink three times an go off. Still flat lined on dash. Any suggestions? An rcu module is 1200 plus lexus shop rate.

all TPMS have to be calibrated. You can take your car to local tire shop or where bought your wheels they should a tool to calibrate your TPMS. I tried the Same procedure reset it and I’m getting the same results flat line.

Replacing sensor
 

I have had hell with the flat lined dashboard. It's always worked before, after many tires and tire rotation. I had a second sensor replaced to see if it was the culprit, still flat lining.. The tire shop is replacing with oem, will see what happens and report.
