phone sync issue
Gentleman.. need some help. When I bought my ES several years back, the tech guy at the dealership set it up so that my phone was synced up to the car.. phone calls, texts, everything came thru fine. Two weeks ago, I replaced that android with a new android.. Synched it up myself and thought everything was good... all my calls come thru, rings thru the speaker on the car.. talk to the caller hands free with no issues.. but for some reason when someone sends me a text message it doesn't come thru.. Before with my old phone I would get an audio message saying " you have an incoming message ".... but now, nothing. Checked my phone and the text message is there but for some reason my bluetooth isn't picking it up.. yet my voice calls are fine. Any idea what I did wrong. Worked perfect on the older phone.

There should be 4 options you can check under the Bluetooth settings button on your phone. Go to the Bluetooth menu and hit the down arrow. Then select "More Settings". Look for the car's name. Mine is called "Car Multimedia", which I believe is the default name. Now, select the settings icon for that connection (Icon looks like a wheel). Make sure all of the options are checked, especially "Message Access", as it sounds like it is not on your device.
Hope that helps. |
you have to enable access from your phone's settings.
if using a samsung galaxy: settings --> connection ---> bluetooth --> lexus ES --> settings --> enable contacts access and message access on default, the phone will not share contacts and messages. just audio and calls. |
Thanks guys, but i need a little more help... I just THOUGHT everything but text messages was working between my phone and my car... Tonight I tried to place a call while driving... pressed the button on the steering wheel, followed the prompts, said who I wanted to call and then said " dial "... almost immediately all the phone stuff on the navigation screen went away and my stereo started playing... all the while, the phone itself was making the call... but just thru the phone, not thru the car speakers.. So in actuality, using the voice prompts I was able to tell it to place the call.... but as soon as the call started to go thru, the car's bluetooth was thru with it, went right back to the stereo while the phone continued to ring my party... so right now the only thing that's going right is incoming calls... someone calls and the phone rings thru the blue tooth settings and I can talk hands free to the other party.. but other than that... Nada...

Start over, delete the phone from the car and the car from the phone.
Fully turn off the phone. When repairing the phone watch the phone screen for various permissions to pop up, OK to transfer phone contacts? OK to enable messaging? Tap OK to these and you ought to be good to go. |

Well I guess I'm just stupid... I went out to the car, deleted the phone and started over... got it where I can make and take calls hands free thru the blue tooth.. but still not getting any notification thru blue tooth on incoming text messages. and I do remember clicking on a tab that something to do with " enabling sms text messages"... If I can't figure it out in the morning, I'll just run by the dealership and get their tech guy to come out and take a look at it... appreciate the help fellas... thanks again.

At this point I'm guessing it's a setting on the phone. I'm sure the Lexus Technology Specialist with get you going.

Hello again friends.. I don't mean to stretch this thread out but I wanted to add a post just in case anyone else runs into the trouble I have had with my phone linking up to the car. as I said in a previous post, I was finally able to make and take phone calls without any issues, but still could not get any notification of an incoming text message.... So earlier today I had some business to take care of near the lexus dealership... as I was driving over my wife sent me a text and VOILA, thru the car speakers I hear " YOU HAVE AN INCOMING MESSAGE ".... It just started working out of the blue... I stopped at the dealership and told the tech guy about this and he asked me if after I went thru all the blue tooth settings, did I turn my phone off... I told him actually I had turned it off.. the battery was low so I powered down and charged it over night. He told me that sometimes you have to reboot your phone after you change some of the settings.. I'll take him at his word because it's working perfectly now... And something new with this phone that I did not have with my older phone, now when I call someone in my contacts, or get a call from someone in my contacts, not only is their name and # displayed on the nav screen, but so is their picture.. Kind of a nice feature... again, thanks guys for the help. It is truly appreciated.
