Drl??

Hello - sort of embarrassed to ask this, but is there a way to have the DRLs come on when the car is started...but NOT in Auto mode on the stalk? In Auto mode the DRLs come on, of course, but when I pull in my garage the headlights come on and the car dings at me when I shut it off because...the headlights are still on. It's very annoying. I hate the dings and I don't want the headlights staying on every single time, even if they shut themselves off eventually. Thanks.

There is a guard gate at work and in the morning when I pull in I turn the headlights back one notch. That turns off the mains but leaves the DRLs on. So...to answer your question, from the AUTO position, turn the switch back one notch before you pull into the garage. The DRLs will stay on but the main headlights will not.

I was doing this for a while but got tired of switching things; I don't want my headlights turning on/off for brief moments, it just seems light it will wear them out more quickly (and expensive to replace!) So...I leave my headlights in AUTO but when I pull into the garage, there is about 10 seconds or so before the main headlights come on. I just make sure I turn off the car before the main headlights come on. Seems to work well.

Thanks, but if I try to park in my garage fast enough to beat the headlights I’ll destroy the water heater LOL!

I also switch my headlights from Auto to Off when I pull into the garage to prevent the momentary turn-on of the HID low beams.
I've learned to do that as step #2 after pushing the garage door open button on the mirror. I do the opposite when leaving the garage, push the door closer button then the headlights to Auto.

+1, I do this at work and at home.

Are you sure it is dinging because the headlights? Maybe because the windows are open or something. My 2017 ES350 does not do this. I leave the lights on auto all the time.

My 2016 does seem to ding when existing the car, as the lights turn on momentarily as i pull into the garage. Only had her a week, but will continue to experiment - It seems counter intuitive to have to turn the lights from auto to off every time i pull in and out.

You should not have to do that. The dinging is most likely from something else, like opening the door before you shut it off.

Yes mine will ding if I pull the door latch slightly before hitting the power button. It will also ding if I leave one of the windows cracked.

yep you were right - though the lights flicked on, i didnt get a beeping when exiting the car. Must have been opening the door early!
