Reasonable to have Toyota dealership follow Camry or Avalon maintenance schedule?
I'm coming up on my 15,000 service and know enough to not pay Lexus prices. Does it make sense to have a Toyota dealership do their Camry or Avalon schedule or would it be significantly different? The one thing that I'd stick to is Lexus' oil change timing and grade.
Or I could bring the Lexus schedule to Toyota and tell them to follow it. (either way I'm pretty sure that they'd use the same parts)
Or bring it to an independent.
Or dig around the forum and find a custom list.
Thanks

I've been bringing my Lexus vehicles to the local Toyota dealer for service for about 15 years, and they follow the maintenance schedule for the Lexus vehicles. Actually, when they input the VIN number into their computers, their data base comes up with the Lexus maintenance schedule for that vehicle, and that is what they follow.

The service departments at Toyota dealers do have access to and the ability to make entries into the Lexus data base. Whether they actually do so probably varies from one Toyota dealer to another. In the case of my Toyota dealer, they do add entries to the Lexus data base for service work that they do on my Lexus vehicles.

When I asked my Toyota dealer to a) remove my old Camry from their "reminders" list and add the Lexus they asked for the VIN so they could properly register it. They said they will provide Lexus level service at Toyota prices. The car is off warrantee anyway but no point in not following the recommendations since I will be driving it less than 10,000 km (6,000 miles)/year so annual oil changes.

At 15,000 miles, I would take it to a Toyota dealership and ask for a tire rotation for about $25.

Shops will do free tire rotations for the simple reason of an opportunity to look at your car to find out if there are low hanging fruits for “needed repairs.” Is a great marketing-sales approach and if done right serves the betterment of the consumer. You always have the right and option to take the car for a 2nd opinion (your preferred shop).

You don't even have to ask, just schedule an appointment. It's done as a courtesy,, BUT if you need tires or have a unknown issue they will find it and sell you a new pair or complete set.

Lexus dealership says they do much more than the minimum because they care about their customers and want to keep their cars running. Sure. Their 15,000 is $300!

What do they do for $300.00? And what is really necessary at 15000 miles? If no issues, get your tires rotated for free at Mavis, or as Mike says at Discount Tire, or if necessary at a Toyota dealer for $20.00. Walmart does a tire rotation for $10.00. All of these mileage intervals set by Lexus dealers are designed to do one thing: separate you from your money. With my 2013 Lexus I had a 5k check for free, a 10k for a free oil change, and never looked back... Never had any mechanical problems in 6 years and never went back to the dealer except for a trunk release recall... All oil changes done by me in my driveway...
