Default Audio system improvement Lexus.

Hi there,
Just bought recently another hybrid es300h.basic model.no nav,no m.l. sound,no detection sensors,no blind spot detection, not Goodies as I have on gs 450h and rx450h.,but engine and fuel economy and maintance is all done diy.
But main reason I had this thread is because Lexus engeeniers disappointed me again regarding sound quality.
So here we are......centar is very crappy all 3 speakers must be replaced.

Default Part 1 removal of all covers

Using plastic tools ,just carefully remove all covers.take your time and please don't schratch beautiful dasbord .

Here is how looks like corner speaker .

I was using 10 mm socket to loose 2 bolts and pulled out speaker Note: be careful not loosing metal tabs on each side where screws going to.

Here is cavity you are dealing with ,here you can see metal tabs. This is good time to measure depth and width for the future speakers.

Default Part2 measurement of impedance for each speaker

Here is what I have selected ,regarding 4 ohm impedance on side speakers and 5 ohm on centar speaker. Pionir entry level speakers but I got them very cheap on garage sale $20.00

Oem corner speakers got 4 ohm as you can see.

Oem center speaker reading 4.8 ohm but on housing saying 5 ohm.

The new pionir replacement speaker got 4 ohm. So now I was sure I will not fry amp.because you can go always more in resistance than less .if I use 3 ohm I can possibly fry my amp on long run if I use 4,5 or 6 ohm I am fine amp.will be ok but Sunday will be less loud as oem 4 ohm specified.

Next step was to drill bigger hole to fit oem screw.

Very simple step ,just wear safety glasses and you will be fine.

This mod for connecting new speaker to oem harness .I didn't like to cut of oem plug just in case if I don't like new speakers procedure is reversable.

Crimping tools used to secure moded connector.

Now was time to install new speakers.

Do not over tight screws.

I have used one of side speakers oem to put in center instead original ,5 ohm.

Put cover back on and voila. Time for music test.

Probably could have said the same thing to you when you created your thread. There are several that cover this issue. This one being a little more relevant, as it's a DIY with pictures.

Right, I looked first, but they were quite old, so I started a new one. The other thread is quite current.

Talking Why sound isn't so great

After test was done I was not happy with sound ,so more research must be done ,so here we go my problem was in polarty

I .have used 9volt battery to check for polarity. If cone of speaker goes upward than polarity is right ,if cone goes downwards it's reverse polarity.

Just hold one connection stable and with other one just tap on.

Here is my polarity .plus and minus.i did cross reference for oem plug and on the front left side red wire was plus (+pozitive) connection. On the front right side was black wire negative (- minus) connection.

I had on both sides reverse polarity that was reason I didn't like sound 2 nd reason I had to put back on cener speaker back ,because my bluetoBlu phone was crappy sound

Here we go center speaker back on original spot. After music test ,I was blown away ......yes yes yes this is great sound from garage sale speakers. So happy with sound. Next project will be adding amp on subwoofer in the trunk space.

Thumbs up

Here is close up of oem speakers

Left side is new pioneer replacement and on the right side is oem center speaker 5 ohm.
Here is closeup cf side oem speaker with specs.

Close-up of modified new wider hole on new pioneer speaker. No cutting of other tabs needed. It will fit the way it is.
thanx for your time reading this thread.
And I appologize if I duplicate thread, but I think this one have more details and it's current as the other members said.

This is a DIY thread, so making it your own is the way to go. Nice write-up!

Default Those are worst speakers ever.

I saw magnet size at stock (speaker up) And new speakers got much bigger magnet,so I was hoping for best.price was very cheap.

I didn't like to spend extra money on speaker adapter so I have decided to use old one. Start cutting membrane around and cutting at back plastic brackets.

That is how is done ,old speaker out and adapter was ready for new speaker.

This step was important, after cutting all plastic bracket I have left wires to be connected to new speaker ,in order to use OEM harness
