Get the colored side moldings. They protect the doors and provide a little character to the side.

I really dislike the door side moldings, reminds me of the early Camrys.
My favorite design aesthetic of this model are the clean smooth doors. Sleek like a silver bullet.
And rarer now that new cars have these weird grooves in their doors and body.

I would tend to agree. I know that opinions about whether the car looks better with the side moldings or without them vary and that it is a matter of personal taste, but I like the "clean" unbroken look of the sheet metal on the sides of the Generation 6 ES.

For me, only infrequently do I need to park my ES in a spot where it would be vulnerable to door dings, but I suppose that, for people who do not have that luxury, utility might be more important to them than aesthetics, and I do also understand that some do prefer the look of the car with the side moldings.

I'm surprised how much you guys are paying without having the ultra luxury or ml system. Almost highway robbery imo I got my 5th gen es with Ultra Luxury and ML system with 24k miles for $18k

You shouldn't be surprised by anything other than how great of a deal you got based on the value of these cars and the prices they are going for across the country. Frankly, your numbers are extremely difficult to believe.

as long as owners are happy with their rides, it doesn't really matter.

that's like saying i'm surprised at how much everyone pays for their laptops when i can get one for half price on black friday sales.

also, i actually did do my research before buying and compared every single price out there within 100 miles of me. yes i paid around $2-4k more for my ride in comparison to what was out there as non cpo. But you are forgetting one thing in here: lexus cpo program offering 1.99% apr on CPO ES. i never ever pay for a car full with cash, unless it's under 10 grand. ain't no credit union out there that's gonna go down to 1.99%, at least from what i received.
this is just 1 of many reason why someone might have paid more.

I'm confused. Hifiman 1 said, in his/her post, that his/her car is a 5th Generation ES. I have no idea whether that is correct or if it is actually a 6th Generation ES, but, if it is a 5th Generation ES, its price should have been several thousands of dollars below that of even an older 6th Generation ES.

Considering a 5th gen is much much cheaper than 18k, id assume it was a typo

I was just stating how I bought the lowest mileage 2012 5th gen es with Ultra Luxury and ml system for $18k. And I am surprised people are paying over 23k for 2013+ non ultra luxury and no ML system with pretty high mileage.

The 6th gen has the same engine and transmission as the 5th gen.
