Exclamation ES 300h - Hybrid battery replacement.

My battery is going strong, but for research purposes my 2013 has 90K miles on it. I assume I'll get another 100K out of it in miles or 3-5 years. I wonder if anyone has replaced theirs? With what? Has anyone used Green Bean Battery?

These batteries have an 8 yr warranty on them and are very durable so even for the 2013, the warranty will expire in 2021. So it is unlikely we will see many failure before that. You may want to check out Camry hybrid forums as the ESh uses the same battery. People say it is about $4,500 or so.

And if it fails it is usually comes down to just a few bad cell (out of original 34). You can youself replace a single cell with a good tested used one for ~ $40. Or just use the service of hybrid battery rebuilders.

I do not believe anyone on this forum has had their battery replaced. Also, there is a 8 (10 in California) year, 100,000 mile warranty. If under 100,000 miles the 1st ES hybrids will not be out of warranty until 2021.

Default Hybrid battery

Hello,

I also just bought my 2013 ES 300h with 90k and it runs great. I am not sure if this is true but I heard if the hybrid battery runs out for this model, the car is still drivable but you wont get the gas milage that it is intend to give. Is this correct?

If there's not enough total voltage in the battery pack, the car won't run at all. It will throw all kinds of errors. I don't think the car can run with a faulty pack.

I've never owned a hybrid vehicle, and I know very little about driving one, but I do have a question. If the car can't even be started when the hybrid battery dies, do you get any hints/warnings that the hybrid battery is about to die before it does, or does it just die without warning and leave you stranded?

Light comes on saying bring to dealership.

No warning.

One way to check battery health is to run an OBD monitor app like Torque. You can see individual cell voltage, resistance, along with a bunch of other OBD parameters. If the difference between cells is a lot, that could be a sign of a failing pack.
There's a logging procedure that Prius drivers use with Torque to see how fast the pack charges and discharges. It's complicated but it beats an unexpected trip to the dealer.

Default faulty hybrid pack......reset via OBD2

Hi there,
I just got recently 2013 ES 300h .I was thinking that will behave same as GS450h model 2008.when hybrid battery pack is faulty.
When I had problem with Hybrid battery pack on GS450h message just popped out check hybrid system ,replace hybrid battery.....so Car was still drivable but no regenerative braking and no hybrid assistance.
I was ablce to start and stop car any time. Fuel milage was awful but at least I was not stranded .
after replacing bad battery cell car was back to normal.

2nd time when same thing happened I was using OBD 2 reader to reset fault for hybrid and car was still running for couple days. After trhat I have rebuild battery pack with new battery cells from camry and prius and car was fine. NOw we have about 560 000 km ...yes it is not typing mistake 560 000 km.lexus is great.

so now I just wondering if the 2013 6th generation ES 300 h has same LIMP MODE available when battery pack is faulted?? Couple youtube videos showed that ES 300h will not start but same guy on other video says that he had to remove negative battery lead from 12 volt battery in the trunk and leave it for one minute and car will start and drive but no hybrid support.
Can somebody confirm this for ES 300h model please.

Default yes ES300h will run on petrol engine if battery pack is faulted

good new for lexus es 300 users ,
if battery fault happens use obd2 code reader to clear fault

(or remove battery terminal from 12volts battery for about 2min,than reconnect it) and engine will start and run again for couple weeks untill you find replacement hybrid battery pack or just some hybrid cells you want to replace.

So it will be the same as GS 450h running on petrol engine when main battery fault occurs.

thank you Lexus engineer's for making LIMP MODE for this ES 300h model and helping us not being stranded on side of the road.

I currently have a 2011 Camry hybrid (my 2019 ES hybrid comes next month). It's almost 9 years old (bought in June 2010) and I have 165,000 miles on it. The battery is fine so far.

The warranty is 8 years or 100,000 miles. At typical driving the warranty would be up around the end of this year.
