For somebody who drives 20-30K a year, this type of oil is useful because it cuts on the number of oil changes he has to do in a year, and I don't doubt that the oil will protect the engine for that many miles or one year but still I need the car manufacturer to say it is OK, especially if the car is still under warranty.

as I stated earlier in this thread, I change my oil every 5K miles... I'm 63 ( soon to be 64 damit ) but when I was growing up and well into adult hood, people always changed their oil every 3K miles... granted that was not using a synthetic... but anyway I had my 4 runner in the shop today to get the oil changed.. I have always used Mobil 1 EP 0W-20.... I stood there and watched the oil drain from the pan and to be honest I was a little dismayed... While the oil still looked pretty good, it sure didn't look as good as I expected. After all Mobil 1 EP is a 15K mile oil and I was changing mine at 5K... sure thought with 10K miles left the oil would have been cleaner than it was... so no way would I allow my OCI to go 20K.

I put between 6-7k on my car per year and change my oil at the 1 year mark using a 0/20w premium full synthetic (usually Mobil 1 but will use whatever Walmart has on sale at the time).

1- At the very least I would stick with the Lexus recommendations so as not to void the warranty original or extended.
2- I stick with 5K oil changes, they're cheap enough. And with each oil change the car gets looked over so hopefully, any issues might be caught early.
3- I had a '98 Merc ML320 that was supposed to tell me when to change oil (FSS System) with conventional oil. Then they started getting gummed up valves and started using synthetic.

thats great, oil filters will last 10k
or less before dirty

change every 10 -12k those who desire more mileage and change less frequently the 20 bucks you save part of it is diminished with new oil and better gas mileage

are you going to use for 10k or more
if 10k or less always use toyota/lexus filters there great for the money

if you plan on going to the ridiculous level a synthetic filter, mobil 1 makes one

I change it at 1 year. I go about 5000 miles in a year.

Although I wouldn't go to 20k for an OCI, IMO any change below 10k or at the one year date is wasteful using pure synthetic... For an oil filter any name brand will do if changed with the oil. Synthetic oil simply does not deteriorate at the same rate that Dino oil does.

Well said! However why would anyone one want to stretch the OCI, for any reason? Just change it when specified.....

What does OCI stand for?

For me, I'm not stretching it mile wise. But I don't think I should wait 2.67 years to reach 10K. That's how long it took me to reach 10K last time. Hence the once a year approach, regardless of miles.

OCI= Oil Change Interval. And I would do exactly as you plan to do. Change at one year regardless of mileage...

I totally agree with you;
