Yes, the top one on means the HVAC will try to adjust the fan, outlets used and temp to what you have set for the temp. If off, the system is in manual mode, you set temp, fan speed and where the air is coming from.
The bottom Auto when on will let the car choose recirculating or outside air. Also also senses certain pollution like a diesel truck and select recirculating until the outside air clears.

No. The AC is automatic (as long as you have turned it on via the central display) and when the AC automatically turns on, the recirculation is automatically switched on to maximize cooling. Switching recirc to fresh air should not turn off the AC.

I don't know too much about the chasis fit. Can you explain what this means?
It's been a few years since I've driven a Camry. So the Camry drives rougher, and the handling is bumpier?
I'm looking at pics of the 2018 Camry, and some of the styling looks similar to what's in the Lexus ES350. Some of the stitching, and layout, etc.
I was also surprised that the V6 Camry had 301 hp. I thought it would be closer to the 2004 Corolla's 130 hp.

State 1: AC Off, air circulates.
I hit the bottom Auto button.
State 2: AC On.
I hit the bottom Auto button.
State 3: AC Off, fresh air from outside.
I hit the bottom Auto button, it then goes back to State 1.

Ummmm.... the Camry has 301 HP. That's more than the ES 350 !
Also, I thought the Avalon was known for a smooth suspension. I would have no idea which ride is fluffier: the Avalon or the ES 350.
Didn't they recently tighten up the ES 350 suspension, to appeal to a 'younger, more hip' crowd. I also heard they're making the 2019 ES 350 even lower to the ground in the front.
Apparently customers want the roughest possible ride, and they enjoy that scraping sound the front of the car makes on exiting a parking place and going on a steep downhill.

A few thoughts on those power ratings.
I doubt a 10% variance or so in HP is actually noticeable in everyday life.
I think the ES is advertised very conservatively by Lexus in terms of the engine power rating etc. It is one of the very few cars where you can achieve a significantly faster 0-60 time than advertised. On most other cars available in the market the advertised 0-60 acceleration is a “dream-figure” that is never achievable in my experience.
I have the brand new 2018 ES (less than 3 months old) and I don’t think the suspension is tuned harder than previously, it’s exactly as soft as last year’s cars.
