How Remove Factory OEM Spoiler
Have a 2014 ES350 with the factory flush mounted spoiler on the trunk. Need to replace it due to damage but can't get it off. Have removed trunk liner and what appear to be the only 4 bolts holding it on, but it won't budge. Is it also taped on? Are there more bolts, or clips? If so what is technique for removing it? Stuck, pardon the pun.
Thanks in advance! |
Check out this link from a previous CL post. The photos are of an install but clearly show how it is mounted. There is double sided tape...

To get through the double sided tape, use dental floss or fishing line or some such and saw it back and forth to cut the tape. This method prevents damage to the paint. Clean up residue and reinstall when you are ready.

Thanks for your reply, but figured it out. Was able to pry up one corner ever so slightly and saw some "goo". So got out the hair dryer and plastic pry bars and Bingo! Spoiler off but not without a struggle. There is a layer of "goo" around the entire periphery of the spoiler despite its being held on with the 4 bolts. Must be to prevent water from running under the spoiler and attacking the seal around the spoiler studs . Pics attached of the "goo". And it's really tough. Thought I was going to break the spoiler pulling it up.Now soaking trunk with Goo Gone to remove goo. HTH someone else.

Great job! Good to know its sealed good too (have one on my car).

Good job removing it. I have used Goo Gone on rear spoiler on another car. It does work but took three rounds. Try not to smell the Goo Gone since it has nasty solvents and work in an open area.
