2016 vs 2017, any difference in NAV, Entertainment systems?
 

Hi:

I am considering a 2016 certified pre-owned ES 350 or a new 2017 ES 350. On the 2016 I can save about $3-4k compared to a new 2017, and the 2016 only has 2K miles on it. The entertainment/NAV systems are comparable (non Mark Levinson), but I can't tell if 2017s have upgraded the interfaces or features any, esp. with respect to smart phone integration (my wife has an iPhone, I am an android guy.) I know that there is no support in Lexus for either apple car play or android auto, have people found these a big issue or is Lexus integration sufficient for must uses? Mainly, if I go w/ 2016, am I missing some key upgrade in Nav/smartphone_integration?

The Generation 9 navigation system in the 2017 ES is a significant improvement over the Generation 8 navigation system in the 2016 ES with regard to its ability to use voice commands. Not only does it have better ability to understand commands, but it can understand a much wider range of commands. It should also be noted that the improved voice command capability extends beyond voice commands for the navigation system and includes improved ability to use voice commands to operate the climate control system and the audio system.

The Generation 9 system also includes the ability to set the map to a 3D bird's eye view.

As far as I know, the ability to pair with and integrate with a smart phone is basically the same with both the Generation 8 and Generation 9 navigation systems.

I have no idea what prices you are being offered on the 2016 CPO vehicle, but 2016 and 2017 CPO vehicles are among the worst buys available. Many find that a new 2017 can be bought for about the same price as 2017 CPO or for just a little more than a 2016 CPO. Currently, people are reporting being able to buy brand new 2017 ESs for prices that are 20% off of MSRP, and I also suspect that, in August the current factory rebate of $2500 might be bumped up a bit and that even better prices might be gotten at that time. I am new to Lexus boards. Let me see what I can find on other threads, I am not sure where to looking for pricing related threads. But I very much appreciate your feedback.

You will see that the OP in the first thread was considering buying a 2017 CPO ES, but he ended up buying a brand new 2017 UL ES, and the price that he paid for that new 2017 ES was about $2300 lower relative to original MSRP than the price that he would have paid for the used CPO 2017 ES.

They all new redesigned 2019 ES will be here in about a year. You might want to wait for it depending on your circumstances.

While I'm sure that the Generation 7 ES, probably for the 2019 model year, will be very nice, I'm confident in guessing that it will be quite a while after those Generation 7 cars become available before people are getting $10,000 discounts from MSRP on them.

Considering that there will likely be a modest increase in the MSRP for the 2019 ES of, say, $1000, it is likely that selling prices for them will be a good $7000-8000 or more higher than the current selling prices for the 2017 ES. By the summer of 2019 (2 full years from now), those prices will probably have come down some, but, in the first year of a new generation, they aren't likely to be close to the $10,000 discounts that people are getting on the 2017s now.

Even if the 2017 ES will only be the "current generation" for another 12-14 months, it is still a very nice car, and, with pricing where it is now, it is hard not to consider buying one, instead of waiting for a 2018.

OP - wait for the 2019 ES to be revealed if you can. this way you can consider both options - you may kick yourself for not waiting for the 2019. in addition, prices for the older models should drop even more after the reveal.

Can you update a 2014 ES350 yourself?
