The only thing that changed was the color of the center bumper bar in the grille (which matched the cars color). Otherwise the grill color has never changed from color to color, and it doesn't on the 2016 either.
I know that the grille color doesn't change depending on the body color, but I was considering the possibility that the trim surrounding the grille might have a different texture/finish depending on the body color of the vehicle.
I have no certainty that that is the case, but the way to find out if it might be is to look at the vehicles on a Lexus lot and see if there is any correlation between body colors and the texture of the trim surrounding the grille.
Dark cars look great in the showroom under fluorescent lights this however is not the real world. After a good rain storm look at a light color car next to a dark color color and compare. Next on a sunny day do the same and now notice the swirl marks between the two.

I think you might be right. Because the black on in the lot is definitely not textured (like a mirror) while the white ones are textured (like a frosted finish) and show little to no reflection.
I will try to remember snapping some photos when I take delivery later this week.

It doesn't, all the trim is the same regardless of the color.
So, you are saying that two people who have posted in this thread (the OP and JDR 76) are wrong and that they didn't really see what they think that they saw.

By what I've seen, I believe I'm in agreement with Steve here. I don't see a difference between the grills on the black versus other colors. All of them I have seen are textured.

I'm saying its a trick of the light, or its some sort of protective cover or something that they're not realizing is there.
I've never seen any Lexus that has different types of metal trim based on exterior color. Just last weekend I was at the dealer and walked down a whole row of 2016 ESs, all different colors...all the trim was the same.
To ensure everyone is on the same page, here is a picture where you can see the brushed versus polished chrome trim at the bottom half of the grill. (Thanks sapd911).
Every '16 ES I have seen has had this same grill treatment.
