Through the first 25 or so age entries, the average age was trending towards 47 years.
The latest 15-20 responses (some included their wives who also drive a Lexus) brought the average age down, closer to 43 years. Not sure if this small sample of Club Lexus users represents the rest the rest of the world, but interesting info either way. |
Hmmm. Some of the more frequent posting members have chimed in but not all. So here's mine. I have a 2013 and plan on buying a 2019 next year. I just bought another Corvette, a 1998 convertible. Sweet! And I'm 73 and happy to be here...

If the question had been asked in 2013 or 2014, I'd guess that average age of ES owners would have been well into the 50s because, at that time, most ES owners were buying their cars new and with minimal discounting from MSRP, and that would make it more likely that typical buyers would be older. Now, with the Generation 6 ES having been available for about 5 years, many recent ES buyers are 2nd owners who have bought their cars at prices close to 1/2 of what a new ES would have cost in 2013. And even those who have recently bought new 2017 ESs have bought them for prices much lower than what people were paying for a new ES in 2013. Those lower selling prices for both new and used ESs would tend to attract more younger buyers. Similarly, if you were to compare the average age, say, of Generation 1 GX owners to that of Generation 2 GX owners I'm sure that the average age of the Generation 1 owners is significantly lower than that of Generation 2 owners because most of those Generation 1 owners are now 2nd or 3rd owners who bought their vehicles at prices that were a fraction of what buyers of new Generation 2 owners are paying. I'm confident, also, that the same thing would be true with other Lexus models. The longer a vehicle has been available, the more likely you would be to find second and third owners who bought their vehicles at lower prices, and those lower prices would likely attract younger buyers. Thus, I would expect that, as the Generation 6 moves through the next year, which will be its last year as a current model, the average age of Generation 6 ES owners will continue to drop. |
Interesting analysis Les. I can see your argument, although I would have thought the average age would have been a function of the model more than the age of the model's generation. This model is more about comfort than sport, and it is a little more expensive than the average family sedan. I would think that appeals more to those folks with mature families, or those wanting to transport elderly parents. It would be interesting to see a more scientific poll just to see where the age actually falls.

I'm sure that, in general, you are correct, but I have noticed that, until a few months ago, most new owners of Generation 6 ESs who started posting here were people who had bought a new ES, but, in the last few months, my perception is that there are many more buyers of used ESs than there had been previously, and many of those have identified themselves as being younger. Now that there are plenty of 2013 and 2014 ES that have come to dealers either as trade-ins or lease returns, that is what I'd expect to be happening.
