Power accessory outlets

Hey guys...just yesterday both my power accessory outlets quit working...the one in the console and the one behind the console..2013 ES350, 21k miles...the phone charger works fine in my truck but when plugged into the Lexus, nothing...maybe a fuse? Does anyone know if the fuse is under the hood or under the dash-board? And of course your thoughts on why they may have quit working Thanks...

According to the on-line owners manual, the power outlet fuse is in the drivers side instrument fuse panel located near the parking brake. Fuse number 35, 15 amp.

Found the fuse this morning, it was blown...don't know why....changed it out, the charger at the rear of center console under the A/C ducts works, but the one inside the console does not...oh well, it's still under warranty, I'll tell them about it next month when it's in for the oil change. Thanks again

Exactly, most of these sites are pretty good. I'm a member on Toyota4Runner Forum (5th Edition), and CorvetteForum.Com, mostly posts in the C5 section. Both those sites are great too... Looks like a nice C2 as your Avatar, is it the 427 edition?

In my dreams... A 327/300hp.

Reading the owner manual at pages 720-722, there seem to be two fuses for power outlets.
Fuse # 15 is "Power Outlet RR". Fuse # 35 is "Cig & Power Outlet".

Fuses should not normally blow, and should not require replacement. When a fuse blows, there is a reason. Either too much load was plugged into the circuit, or there is a problem with the circuit itself, or there was some sort of surge current...

If it blows again, inventory the stuff that was plugged in. Phones and such should not be enough to overload a 15A 12V circuit, but it might be possible. A couple of laptop chargers might. In any case, each of the power converters should say how much amps they use.

Absent an overload, you should have the circuit checked for a short before replacing a fuse a second time.

There's two power outlets in the car? I can only find one! :uh:

My manual for the 300h says these are 10 amp outlets.

Nelexus88 Aug 30, 2014 05:23 AM

I believe the second outlet fuse (Power Outlet RR) is actually number 16 (not 15) according to the manual. Im guessing thats the rear outlet and 35 is the front. Not sure which fuse you found blown.
Your phone charger may work in the truck because it may have a bigger fuse than the Lexus. My previous Accord used a 20 amp outlet fuse.

Im guessing the 15 amp fuses are used in the Lexus to provide some extra capacity for the 10 amp (120 watt) label rating.

Newtype - the '13 &'14 ES350s have two power outlets. One inside the center console and another in the rear of the console. The earlier ESs only had one outlet.

OK Guys thanks for the help. Don't know how I overlooked the info in the manual, but I did.. As far as the load on the p/outlets, nothing but cellphones have been plugged in, but what's strange now is that each p/outlet has it's own fuse, and both blew. I'm not sure if we ever used the rear outlet so I'll let Lexus deal with it....it's still in warranty. I'll let you guys know what they say.

I was surprised to find that there are only two power outlets, and neither of them is anywhere near the windshield. For devices like navigators and radar detectors, an outlet near the front window would be useful.

With the big 250 volt supply battery in these cars, they really could even provide a 120-volt 60-cycle outlet just like you have in your house...

Universe93 Aug 31, 2014 06:37 AM

I agree, there should be one near the windows considering today's gadgets.

Can anyone tell me how many max amps and idle amps the ES350's alternator is rated for? We are currently in the market for a minivan (Odyssey or Sienna), and the ES350 is doing duty as a family hauler until then. Have several electronics that need to be run from the outlets from time to time. I also bought a power inverter that is rated to over 300 watts. Can the ES350 power outlet take that many watts?

Nelexus88 Aug 31, 2014 09:13 AM

The ES rear outlet labeled 120 watts and 10 amps. I presume the front is the same since they both have 15 amp fuses. If you do the math 12volts x 15amps is 180 watts max.
I expect your 300 watt inverter rating is output so the input power would be even more, meaning it will likely blow the fuses and not work with your standard outlets if it is fully loaded.

Thanks for the reply, I have a '14 ES350 and I cannot for the life of me find the second outlet. So one is in the center console right by the cupholders and the other one is behind it? On the driver's or passenger side? Thanks!
