Lexus tops Consumer Reports ratings

Overall, the five most reliable vehicles, according to Consumer Reports, are the version of the Subaru Forester that does not have a turbo-charged engine, the Toyota Prius liftback, the Lexus ES 300h Hybrid, the Scion xB and the Toyota Prius C.

The five least reliable vehicles are the Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, the turbocharged Ford Escape, the Mini Countryman, the Ford C-MAX hybrid and the Nissan Pathfinder.

Has Consumer Reports Bad News About the Camry Spilled Over?

Has anyone heard of Consumer Union reporting on the crash-worthiness of the ES since the 2013 IIHS crash report gave the ES a "poor" rating for "front small overlap". This was apparently the exact reason why Camry lost its acceptable rating by CU. Both cars, of course, have very similar construction.

I haven't heard or read anything. On the IIHS web site this area is grayed out for the ES350. Maybe it means not tested? All other measures are in the green (Good).

BTW, kudos to the Lexus division and 300h specifically for the CR ratings. Lexus is usually in the top three each year.

I found the info at: http://www.cars.com/lexus/es-350/2013/safety-ratings

If somehow this does not connect, try Googling: lexus es-350 crash test

When I did it it was the first site that came up.

The good news is that the 2013 ES350 is still an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

The 2013 ES300h shares a totally new platform with the Avalon.

2013 Lexus ES is similar to the 2013 Avalon, not Camry. Still Avalon is a few inches longer.

Good test & review = Good magazine.
Bad test & review = The magazine is a rag.
