Default fyi, the steering wheel retract can be shut off (by dealer)

I went in for service today, (5k) and had some things changed that were bugging ME.

The dealer was able to stop the steering wheel from moving after the power is shut down.
(this is the new home for my sunglasses /case, between the wheel and the dash.)

they also changed the turn signals from 3 to 7 blinks.

I know the wheel moving doesn't bother most of you, but I worry about the motor wearing out, and I now have a new storage space.

also paid for an oil change. I think it takes 5.6 quarts... 99 bucks,

-which I didn't think outrageous when oil is 8-9$/qt on ebay, and guess factory filter is another 10.

I also found out I could have gotten a loaner!

wish I would have know that.

all said. good experience at JM.

It was my understanding that the 5K inspection/service was complimentary.

Not a free oil change.
That's 10K miles or one year.

I thought that the 5k AND 10k oil changes were free. I'm going to go look at the manual...

Well Joeb you're correct. One free oil change at 10k. None at 5k although the service appointment is free.

I wanted the oil changed, so it was not free.

a small beef was I was quoted 99 dollars for the oil and filter change, but they tacked on disposal and misc chemicals for another 15. I understand these fees, but hate to be nickel-ed and dime-ed. (15%)

on the wheel, I noticed I'm able to put the car in drive faster now... get in, brake and power, right into drive. no delay. many times I would do that too fast and would need to power off/on again.

Being a old time car guy I think changing oil every 10K is inviting trouble...I had a hard time going from 3K to 5K on our Audi even using a 2X larger oil filter and synthetic oil. Oil and filter changes are cheap insurance down the 100K+ road

Here where I live we have two independent Lexus shops (each with 15 years as Toyota/Lexus dealership mechanics) that only work on Toyota and Lexus cars. They are much lower in cost and have all the latest computer software that dealers have to make changes that the driver cannot.

If I recall correctly, I think you can turn off both the steering wheel and chair retract for start up/shutdown from your settings. Actually, there's a partial exit mode that you can select, where only the steering wheel retracts, or full exit where both chair and steering retracts. I don't need nor want the chair moving up or back when I get in or leave, so I've set it to partial.

The new 10k intervals on the Lexus are only because of synthetic oil...

fwiw, I saw a bmw engine with 15k synthetic oil chg intervals. Totally gunk-ed up after 75k.

I'm still on the fence if toyota branded oil is worth it, but think 5 to 7500 intervals make more sense and are cheap insurance.

but I own my car and plan to keep it 10 yrs too. if I were leasing, I'd only do the minimum maintenance. I doubt it will make any difference in less than 5 years.

and yes, I had the memory seat turned off, by the sales tech. but he needed the service computer to turn off the wheel.
