And as mentioned, the HID's make a humming sound too.
Yep, that's what it is. My GS does it and my mothers X3 does it as well, its normal there was a discussion in the 3GS forum thread on this. I'll see if I can find it.

True. Something like 8 hours, actually.

I've had my ES350 for a month, but haven't noticed any noise when it's off. How long does the sound last after it starts?

Yes. This gentleman is correct. I bought my IS250 2 weeks ago. Heard the noise. Called the dealer. Evaporation leakage test. Normal. Hurts nothing on car. No drain on battery. Same power consumption as a wristwatch they say. Enjoying the car. But I wish I had the bucks for the FSport.

Heard the same noise from my wife's RX350. I was really baffled until I came in to read this forum. It is the fuel system. You would think every salesperson would tell buyers of this noise. It is in the manual but who reads that cover to cover. Thought I read it only does it when the tank is a 1/4 low or only has a 1/4 of a tank left.

I too heard this sound about 5 hours after the car was turned off. I did have 1/4 tank of gas so I am assuming its the vapor pump. Did anyone confirm this is normal on the es350 with the dealer because in the manual it says it only applies to hybrids.

Default Glad I found this

I walk into my garage and hear this humming coming from the car. It had been hours since I had driven it. After a couple of minutes of trying to figure out where it is coming from I finally pinpoint it coming from rear of car underneath. I get my key and power on the car to run through the System Check. Nothing unusual comes on the dash that would indicate a problem. I shut down the car and the noise is gone. Very odd.

I believe it has to do something with the fuel vapor recovery system. This is normal and I also have experienced it.

Not only is it normal, but all of our cars do the same thing, and they are all supposed to do it. It is just the case that many are unaware of it happening because it happens well after the car has been shut down, and, unless you happen, by coincidence, to be in the garage when it is happening, you wouldn't be aware of it.
