There are four references to tinted windows in the manual. Mostr state the obvious (do not tint your windshield, etc.). However, there is one reference on page 989 there is a warning that states:

"The installation of window tinting may
obstruct the GPS signals. Most window
tinting contains some metallic content
that will interfere with GPS signal recep-
tion of the antenna in the instrument
panel. We advise against the use of win-
dow tinting on vehicles equipped with
navigation systems."

There is a way u can tint the front window with a 70% tint they use for architectural tint it's has UV and heat deflection and its clear white , and ceramic contains no metals but the tints take a long time to install my car took 11hrs to finish ouch well worth it tho.

Default Window tint

Hey, I'm new to the site. 2013 ES 350,Starfire pearl, nav, 18's I recently had the windows tinted by a place that has tinted all of my prior vehicles. I went with 20% smoke as I usually do. From the exterior it looks normal, but from the inside out it looks like you are looking through a foggy haze. Has anybody experienced this? Please help.

The tint material that was installed on my car was carbon based. I selected 35% which is slightly darker than I expected probably due to the tint Lexus already has. From inside it is clear as a bell. I am very happy with the result & I have no radio or GPS reception issues.

South Carolina law is 30%, however, every unmarked police car is completely blacked out. Come through our state and see a SUV or Dodge Charger with blacked out windows, rest-a-sure there are blue light behind the grill.

That's not the GPS antenna, if that's what you're referring to.

I'm going to venture a guess, as a retired mechanical engineer from Magellan, the antenna is located in the center of the dash close to the front windshield.

The earlier gps units required an external antenna placed up on the dash, however, these days a cheap hand held Tom Tom will operate just fine any where inside the car.

Had the car retinted at the same place, used tint from a different roll, looks great. Have no idea what the problem was.

Yes and I can't understand why Toyota did that on the last generation ES UL and even worse continued to have it on the new generation.
Even an Optima doesn't have an XM antenna on the trunk.

XM antenna is shark fin antenna on the roof. The trunk antenna is something else. I'm still trying to figure it out, but was told the GPS antenna is in the dash.

XM/GPS whatever box,it shouldn't be there when cheaper cars with a glass pano roof don't have an antenna on the trunk.
Looks tacky on a Lexus.

The box is part# 8696033020B1
ANTENNA ASSEMBLY, SATELLITE RADIO-RING

I agree. Other cars with pano roofs don't have it on the trunk lid. It always looks like an afterthought to me.
